I think so too. Think Mr Howard Ricardo is the account owner.

I would be going to the police and going to Monzo's offices.

Yes I did and I changed it round a couple of times as well.

What do you think would happen if you want to Monzo's offices?

I can't find the link now but there was a solicitor who was scammed personally in a similar way and when he realised he went to the courts and got an order to freeze the account and took it to the scammers bank.

I guess I would get a crime reference number and go to their office kicking up and fuss and seeing what they could do. Probably fruitless but I couldn't just sit and do nothing.

I still think my sympathies with the guy who’s been scammed!!! Let’s keep the focus on helping him out. I’m sure you’ll get it sorted in time.

Presumably they can send them back using distance selling rules? Quite simple and cost effective if true?

The lawyer who managed to get some money back by having to accounts frozen knew the system and people, doubt joe public would get anywhere.

To Leo you need to report this to your bank and to monzo and also report this to the police. They most likely won’t do much but you never know.

Thanks for confirming Jeff. That’s worrying. Hacking isn’t easy so most attempts are done using passwords leaked elsewhere or the usual list of weak passwords.

Time to be extra careful around WUS.

I am also on WUS, I have a couple of WTB and got cont emails. The WUS team were very quick to get in touch and warm me.

I hope that Leo gets his coach back.

Even SC had a couple of scammers recently

Maybe it's time for all watch fora, on which private transactions involving potentially thousands of pounds can be initiated, if not actually conducted, to institute two stage authentication. Due diligence would still be required but at least user accounts would be far less likely to be hacked.

If anything I don't know why the scammer didn't fully know that as it looks like they've given their name by doing this.
Looks like it's all change on the account name front.

Search 'Watchuseek account hacked' on google and you'll be amazed (or not) how often this happens! No wonder that WuS tries to cut off all connections with the OP! Besides, wasn't there an orange banner on WuS a few years ago about the WuS server being hacked? They stated that they'd 'expired' all passwords. But did they?

It's easy to get caught out. I almost got scammed last year when trying to buy my aqua Terra. I opened a wanted thread on watchuseek and a guy messaged me following day. He told be I could get references from two users on the Rolex forums so I signed up and pm d the guys. They were both long term members there and had even some sales feedback..they replied and said sure go for it..I got some advice from.someone else and they suggested as the watch was in Scotland why not fly over from Dublin on a cheap flight and collect in person. When I suggested this the seller went quiet. I found the pictures he had sent me on an ebay listing from a different seller. I reported the activity on the Rolex forums and they took no action. I mean its obvious this guy or some of his buddies had opened accounts to build reputation so he could refer himself. It's a dangerous place out there.

It’s a sad tale but let’s hope this saves others from being Scammed..,

Never Ever Send Money To a Total Stranger
Especially Those asking for a Small Deposit to hold the watch.

How Many Times Do you need to be told..

With some patronising phrasing, I think you’ve drawn completely the wrong conclusion from this which is kind of insulting to the OP because he didn’t just blindly send money to a total stranger! The OP sent money to scammers who hacked the account of a long-standing and good referenced user...it was not like he just sent money to a 1-post count individual with no references.

Exactly my point you never know who you are sending money to or if said account has been hacked the reality is you have No clue whatsoever unless you carry out proper due diligence before sending a penny..
These Forums unfortunately have become a scammers paradise taking advantage of those who trust others..obviously No Fool would send money to. 1-post count individual or would they....
