Thread: Show off your daily dress watches!

Show off your daily dress watches!

    Hi,

So as my tastes change from large bulky chronos, and over-sized Breitlings to more svelte - 39/40mm watches... the Chopard thread had pics of the Luc XPS which one of the forum members posted...

To me that was the perfect dress style watch but it was easily wearable as a daily wearer - not being so delicate as to only been worn on formal nights out.

I was hoping to get other suggestions for watches which fit this genre... no particular price bracket but tbh if I had unlimited funds then a moser of some sort would have been high on the list!

    Cheers

    Matt

Not for everyone but here's mine. Alexander Shorokhoff SixtyThree. 40mm.

Quite casual in a tan strap.

No photos of my own yet, as this has just landed. It probably won't be my daily (as is everyday) dress watch, as I don't wear a dress watch on an everyday basis, but it will be my new dress watch for most occasions. I had a panda dial version previously and let it go, because I felt it fell between two stools; too refined for a sports watch and too sporty for a dress watch. This version is just perfect and is rightly the most popular.

Not a great pic but this Alpina Alpiner of mine is 39mm and a nice daily wearer if I want something a bit smaller/slimmer.

I like the date @6 too.

These are my out and out dress watches, as opposed to the more complicated/sporty variety. Both beauties.

For me, these two fit the bill very nicely. I happily wear either on a regular basis.

I would wholeheartedly concur. Can I ask what diameter these watches are, without the crown? Thanks.

Thanks very much. They’re 35.8mm and 34mm respectively, although the JLC seems to wear a little larger on the wrist than the size suggests.

I know it’s been asked time after time on here but what website do people use to post pictures again!?

Wear mine in daily rotation depending on the formal shirt, trousers and shoes I want to wear on the day. I have a variety of straps that I swap. Both are 37mm.

    Recent arrival.

Just awaiting new strap to replace the OEM faded blue which I’m not keen on.

My dressiest watch - a lovely little buckley datejust. Lume has turned a lovely orangey-yellow. About to swap the jubilee for a grey leather strap.

For me, these two fit the bill very nicely. Probably because I rarely wear a formal shirt.

My Longines dress chronograph (if a chrono can be allowed as a "dress" watch). Worn in rotation if not actually every day.

Tony, as always your photographs are stunning and that JLC is the very definition of a classy dress watch. Unfortunately, my perfect size is 42/43mm which is tragic as it rules out the 16710 Pepsi that I sold here despite it being just about the perfect watch for me (aside from diameter).

Yes, I guess 34mm is small by modern standards. Once it’s on the wrist it doesn’t take long to feel “right”, though.

    Thanks, btw.

Show off your daily dress watches!

I think that 34mm is the absolute perfect size for a dress watch. Unfortunately, even in a work shirt and tie I am just a scruffy so-and-so. I can just about pull off a Datejust, but I fear an out and out dainty looking dress watch with thin leather strap may just be a step too far, although At some point I do expect to end up with a Constellation.
For now I will stick to lusting over the photos on here.

I don't have a problem with 34mm for a dress watch. I think the OP was looking for 39-40mm ideas though which seems to have been lost. Love that Vulcain! What's the retail of those?

While I do not own one, I was recently impressed by Tudor’s 1926 range. Especially the white dial model with blue indices and hands. Available in a variety of case sizes too.

Indeed, I almost bought a 1926 recently, but went for another second hand AT instead. I think the 1926 looks like pretty reasonable value though.

I did own one and I was very impressed. A lot of bang for the buck. On steel it has a very DJ-like appearance, while it's more dressy on leather. I owned the 36mm, by the way, which wasn't a small watch I'd say.

And since the OP mentioned it...

I was just pondering what the accepted ideal dress watch size was - 37mm?

I have a strict criteria for a dress watch

    1) must be on leather, No bracelets
    2) White or cream dials, not black but at a push maybe grey or blue

Just my opinion when it comes to dress watches

I am not sure I own a proper dress watch, but I do have two watches that I can wear for times when a sports watch is just a bit gauche

    IWC Cal 89 from 1956

    B&R Geneva 123

I know it can’t be a dress watch, Arabic quarters and screw down crown, but I love it, and do wear it a lot

Having big wrists my smallest watch is a 40mm Smiths Everest (PRS-25) which isn't really dressy.
My dressiest watch would be an Eterna Tangaroa with a grey dial and blued hands.

I could also probably get away with my UN under a shirt cuff at the right event.

In the past I have gone 007, wearing a dive watch with black tie but that was before the above watches were part of my collection.
