    Windy out!

Had a flashback last night, the sound of the wind reminded me of the storm in 87, i was in a tent in a small village called Staithes, a site called "warp mill", was an old ridge tent alloy poles, i could here the wind coming along the valley then hitting my tent, didnt sleep much but was an experience, net day lots of trees down but tent was still up and intact, i belive i paid £10 for it!
    just thought i would share.

Similar to a night I spent on Ben Nevis in a breeze.

Uprooted 25ft tree over the road, and a Christmas tree appears to have flown around too.

High winds, loose ridge tiles, insurance claim, long wait, fixed... rinse and repeat :(

Think they initially stuck them on with cellotape.

Trees down everywhere and road blocked, managed to move one huge branch that was blocking road by actually using rope and deplorable towbar. Who would have thought multi uses for the towbar. Tree not a chance need a chain saw.

Rugby League season starts this weekend, I`m supposed to be going to Wakefield Trinity v Catalan Dragons this afternoon, as a season ticket holder I feel I should go because I`ve paid (Yorkshire logic).........here's hoping the match is postponed, can`t play rugby in these conditions and it'll be no fun watching them attempt to.

Bloody weather, very strong winds and heavy rain at the moment in Wakefield, I guess it's the same over most of the country.

I`ve looked forward to this match, wasn`t sure if I`d get there having just had minor knee surgery last Monday, the knee's OK but now the weather's going to ruin it.

    Edit: Match Postponed........great news!

We're doomed. Oh well, BA112 has set a new record this morning: New York - London in 4hrs and 57 minutes. Top speed over 1300 km/hr at certain points. Who needs Concorde when you have Ciara?

You were in a tent during the storm of 87?!

I remember the night well as thought I was going to die honestly. I was only 10 at the time and woke to the sound of my bedroom ceiling being smashed in. We lived in an old farmhouse on top of a hill to boot.

We all ended up in the kitchen wondering what was going to be left of the house. The sound was so crazy and it really sounded like the house was going to come down around us.

We couldn’t leave the house as the roof was being ripped off and the out buildings nearby being ripped apart. It was actually quite scary at the time.

The light of day was a shocking sight, the roof was completely gone off our house, tiles embedded in the ground (could have easily been killed trying to get away) the outbuildings roofs gone and even the walls on my dads building where he kept his van and tools flattened and everything ruined.

We had no electricity for ages after. It must have been devastating for my parents when I look back now. As a kid you get through the scary event but the rest is a bit of an adventure I guess.

We actually had another storm a few years later that wasn’t that far off 87 really but I guess most of the weak trees and buildings were gone or buildings repaired to a better standard. It still did a fair bit of damage though.

Sadly the car cover was blown off my Lotus. Good job it hasn’t been raining hard. Oh wait.

At least the soft top is really effective at keeping out the rain. Erm.

Soggy car. Time I found a garage to rent...

Suggest you dry the carpets out ASAP, otherwise it’ll smell like wet dog forever.

Took Dot out this morning in the woods behind our house.

The wind was swirling and thin rotten branches were flying all over.

The sound from the trees as the wind swept through them was incredible.

    Dot didn't fancy hanging around!
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Not too bad in London. Clearly all that extra tax we pay has gone on creating a huge deflector shield to send the wind up North

Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun

It’s gone past that stage mate, I could culture the interior for new species of mold. Eek.

I only drive it with the top down so the smell will be ok! 🤣

Luckily there was a gap in the rain for a few hours, the high winds managed to dry it out a bit. The mould cleaned off easily too. Phew!

I drove a Luton box van from Scotland to Yorkshire in the 87 storm. I got blown from one side of the road to the other and had it on 2 wheels on one of the A1 roundabouts but managed to get back OK in the end!

I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to put those fences etc back up. Take a look at what's forecast for the weekend: www.metbrief.com/EGRR.html.

'87 We walked from a sleazy joint called the Cafe Des Artistes just off the Kings Road to a friends house in Kensington where I spent a comfy night tangled up with a young lady.
The evening was dead calm, not a hint of wind but ye gods the morning had a surprise for us, luckily we all had motorbikes as they were almost the only method of transport able to move anywhere.
It's a shame we didn't have smart phones/cameras, Wandsworth Bridge Road was a sight, trees in cars, cars in trees the lot and I slept through it all!

Bit windy at Birmingham Airport apparently. Think these pilots earnt a stiff drink and a bit of stewardess action.

The aluminium patch tape from my shed roof is hanging over into next doors sub station. I won't try to get it back. PS The free leccy is great!

It looks like the next one, Dennis, is on our doorstep. Some forecasts talk about a stronger storm than Ciara, others talk about a smaller, less strong storm.
