    Watch options - classic 36mm and around a £1000

A work colleague wants to buy her husband an anniversary present and is thinking of a watch for around £1000. Needs to be around 36mm in diameter and pretty classic.

I immediately thought of vintage but I think the chap is new to watches so wants the comfort of something new.

My next idea idea is the Longine Heritage Conquest, which she likes but has anyone got any other thoughts ?

It would help if the watch can be sourced via WOS , Goldsmiths , Beaverbrooks Etc as we want to see it in person rather than do it on order.

    Inspiration will be much welcome

If a mature gent then Longines La Grande Classic, or Elegant with the bonus of securing a discount from a family business or Grey?

Nomus? WoS stock them and there is choice in smaller sizes. What do you think she'd like to buy, sports, dress, strap etc?

Nomos is a good shout but I don't think you'll get even a new Club 701 for £1k nowadays. Orion 309 35mm sounds like it would be perfect but RRP is over £1500.

If the buyer will consider used then much more opens up including many of the 35mm handwound Nomos range (Orion, Tangente, Ludwig etc).

Used I would also consider the 37mm quartz 9F range from Grand Seiko. Older ones are rare but can still be had within budget. Just.

I’d normally recommend a well- restored vintage watch, but it’s difficult to buy good ones. I’m currently wearing a 35mm 1967 Omega Constellation that keeps time within a couple of seconds/ day, looks virtually new, dial and hands are original, it’s a super watch, but they do take some finding. Vintage watches usually need servicing, and often need work to make them waterproof again, recent servicing by someone reputable is a big plus.

The Longines recommended earlier is a good shout.

I was surprised Nomos was available. £200 cheaper at WoS than Jura unless somehow they're different?

38mm so out of size requirement but worth a try.

I like the various versions of the Sinn 556 at this price, shade larger at 38mm though...

Aqua Terra 36mm quartz are about £1k I think?

If you can stretch a further 1mm, I think you would go along way to find a better, classier looking watch than Eddie's prs 36, and significantly less than £1k

    https://www.timefactors.com/smithsprs36.htm

Most folks will know the name, it has an element of British heritage, and is a well made handsome watch with a lovely looking hand would movement, and a vintage vibe. I chose this watch as my company's 20 year service award, and love it.

I'd also go with a 36mm Stowa with that budget, lovely watches & a great company to deal with.
