    Android smartphone problem w/homescreen icons

Please forgive me, as I am a Boomer, and an early one at that!

For some reason, the notification alerts for the Messages icon and Voicemail icon no longer appear on the home screen of my Samsung Galaxy Note 8 smartphone. I've double-checked every setting on my phone I can think of, but everything appears to be in the "on" position.

As a result, I miss responding to texts and phone messages for days, or weeks!

    Help would be much appreciated!

    Try :-
Settings - Notifications - Status Bar
Make sure the status bar toggle switch is on.

As above if its both would be my guess.

Maybe a silly thought but have you tried restarting the phone?

The "Show notification icons" toggle is on, and set to "All notifications." Also under Notifications, the "App icon badges" toggle is on. And yes, I restart my phone periodically to clean out any residual "junk" accumulation.

Try turning the status bar off in your settings & then restart your phone & turn the status bar back on.
If that doesn't work try changing your background to the default one - if the status bar icons then appear you could probably change the background back to what you want.

Have you recently updated to Android 10? It treats Notifications very differently to Android 9 (and has broken a few useful app for me).

In reviewing my Notifications settings, I found one toggle set to off that I switched on, and now all seems fine. I can't remember exactly which toggle it was, though.

Couldn't have found it without your help. Thanks guys!
