    Waterproof overtrousers

Last year I sought recommendations here for a new waterproof coat. Following several recommendations I ended up with a Berghaus and I love it.

Well now my trusty craghoppers breathable over-trousers are leaking and re-treatment hasn't fixed them. I'm not a gearhead but want something of a similar quality to my Craghoppers. The Berghaus Deluge at £40 get very good reviews but is there anything else around that price point I should be looking at? My old ones have a waist button as well as elastic whereas the Berghaus are only elastic and I think I'd quite like a button, don't ask me why.

Army/RAF surplus are now my go to. So many fit options, and what appears to be unbranded goretex. Cheaper than brands too.
It's just a matter of time...

If you want similar quality to Craghoppers, nip in to Go Outdoors and join their membership scheme. They have loads of reasonable quality stuff for less than £30.

Berghaus kit is a bit hit and miss these days. Used to be brilliant.

If you want something of a little higher quality, I can recommend innov8 but I think they cost me about £60. Very thin yet worked really well.

I didn't bother getting into any hydrostatic head conversations as my eyes tend to glaze over when it is mentioned.

Online or do you go to a shop?

Thanks, yes the coat came from GO and I'm really pleased with it, completely waterproof, never yet at all sweaty and light & comfortable. Sadly my nearest GO is a bit of a trek away.

I look at Decathlon when I want outdoors gear. Great quality and value.

I have the Berghaus deluge and they are great. They replaced a significantly more expensive pair of outdry by Columbia.

The Columbia lasted 2 years and then every seam leaked very badly all in one go, like the glue went bad.

Galvin Green for me - no rustling, no leaks, more breathable than many, and look pretty good too (so can wear to and from the office). Bit more pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I've recently gone for the Rab Downpour Plus - not yet had a chance to try them. They are above your budget though, but with this sort of thing I'm in the (hopeful) buy right, buy once camp.

The reason I went with them over the Berghaus offerings was the full length two way zip. Most manufacturers make them at most ¾ zips, meaning you cannot access your upper trouser pockets when wearing the overtrousers. That combined with the light weight and material was a winning combination for me.

I went with the Berghaus and use them for SAR work, I normally sweat a lot when wearing waterproof trousers but have had no issues with these at all.
They are also standing up to the abuse I throw at them pretty well.

I got a pair of Endura for mountain biking but use them more for walking these days.
They're over 10 years old and I expect ar least another 10.

had some polaris surge overtrousers for many years now, never treated them never washed them
they let in a wee bit of water via the zip on one leg only in extreme rain/windy conditions
but this is after 5-6 years
