What an absolutely gorgeous Daytona, a very special piece of history and in that condition a museum watch at least.
Why does this kind of thing not happen to me

Wow, what a fantastic watch. Haywood will be along in a minute to say he hates these 😂
I love stories like these and hope the guy does well if he moves it on.
I've grown to like them. Probably an age thing. HM will see the light....
:-)
I can’t imagine there are many like that out there. I’m sure the owner will sell it - I look forward to seeing whether the estimates are anywhere near what it actually gets.

Fantastic, and great that back in the day he bought a Daytona with a discount and for less than a months military pay.
I wish the guy well, wish I could own it, and amazing that a months pay has bought him a significant tax free pension!!
Amazing story, congratulations to the bloke. Enjoy your retirement!
It's one of the more pleasing variants and of course a superb example, but could anyone say that those funky numerals on the sub-dials may be aesthetically reconciled with the thin, plain numerals on the bezel?
I would buy it if I thought the price worthwhile, of course, but for the same reasons I have four 1655s, each of which I dislike equally.
The provenance and context, of course, are very cheering.
Incredible. I just can’t imagine buying a watch and never wearing it!
Warranty not filled out, sooo it's not a full set?
I can never understand people that buy new watches and then never wear them. But then again....!! 😗
Beautiful watch and what a nice story. I’m guessing a months’ wages for someone in the airforce now wouldn’t get them a Daytona!
Great story. I enjoyed the Air America link.
Whoever does not know how to hit the nail on the head should be asked not to hit it at all.

Fabulous!
Once upon a time I had a Doxa 300T with a similar story: fella received it for being his company’s top salesman of 1978 or suchlike. You really wonder how these things can sit untouched for decades.
The only thing I found was too much belly fat
$500-$700k 😳😳😳
Unbelievable. Makes me wonder what kind of person could possibly purchase!
Great stuff. I wonder how much it will sale for!! That is of course if he lets it go.

Don't have a intention to tickle someones ribs here, but what kinda "story" this tells? Guy bought it, he was having second thoughts about owning it and just put it in a drawer for safe keeping. Internet did the rest.
If you wanna hear stories, just go on Talking watches with Moki Martin and David Williams.
This hobby is mad isn't it?
The commoditisation of rare models has reached such a fever pitch that we have people considering a half million dollar watch that has sat in a drawer for 40+ years.
The difficulty is that all of the valuation, reporting, fluffing and selling systems for these rare things have vested interests in them staying valued at such ludicrous levels, so it self-perpetuates.
In a real world this valuation, whilst great for the owner, is a bit obscene. More than a bit.
Eventually that will probably become the more common opinion, and the obscenity will reduce.

Amazing find. Shame the watch hasn't lived it's best life though.
Difficult to understand how the case back sticker is so worn yet the watch is supposed to be unworn, mine has the original case back sticker but is no way as bad as that yet my watch is regularly worn.
Heres the vid just released

Did you clock how much DNA was in the clasp when he was pointing out the sticker and reference at the end?
There is absolutley no way that is unworn, no way at all.
Even as someone who loves watches it’s just such a strange hobby that can value what could still be considered a small, mass produced item from only 50 years ago, at that kind of money. Collectors are.. strange. Still, good for him that he gets to capitalise on the insanity of the wealthy.
Just goes to show, that selling a Rolex is something best avoided. Buy it, keep it and buy another is by far the best policy. Constant flipping really is a mugs game.
If he was in 'nam he probably had a watch made out of someones Ear as a daily wearer.
Bridge for sale anyone?

The clumsy attempt at taking off the back sticker is a deal breaker for me. What was he thinking?
It is quite possible the video is staged and there is some embellishment and some questions about how ‘unworn’ it is.
Still a very rare given the condition and a ‘full set’ with receipts.
And worth a ‘lot of money’. How much exactly, one would only know when it comes up for sale.
