I can’t imagine there are many like that out there. I’m sure the owner will sell it - I look forward to seeing whether the estimates are anywhere near what it actually gets.

It's one of the more pleasing variants and of course a superb example, but could anyone say that those funky numerals on the sub-dials may be aesthetically reconciled with the thin, plain numerals on the bezel?
I would buy it if I thought the price worthwhile, of course, but for the same reasons I have four 1655s, each of which I dislike equally.
The provenance and context, of course, are very cheering.

Could you imagine the stress of keeping it, insurance would be a costly knightmare especially as it’s been widely shown on TV. Surely he will have to sell it... nice problem to have though.

Don't have a intention to tickle someones ribs here, but what kinda "story" this tells? Guy bought it, he was having second thoughts about owning it and just put it in a drawer for safe keeping. Internet did the rest.

The commoditisation of rare models has reached such a fever pitch that we have people considering a half million dollar watch that has sat in a drawer for 40+ years.
The difficulty is that all of the valuation, reporting, fluffing and selling systems for these rare things have vested interests in them staying valued at such ludicrous levels, so it self-perpetuates.
In a real world this valuation, whilst great for the owner, is a bit obscene. More than a bit.
Eventually that will probably become the more common opinion, and the obscenity will reduce.

Difficult to understand how the case back sticker is so worn yet the watch is supposed to be unworn, mine has the original case back sticker but is no way as bad as that yet my watch is regularly worn.

There is absolutley no way that is unworn, no way at all.
Even as someone who loves watches it’s just such a strange hobby that can value what could still be considered a small, mass produced item from only 50 years ago, at that kind of money. Collectors are.. strange. Still, good for him that he gets to capitalise on the insanity of the wealthy.

Just goes to show, that selling a Rolex is something best avoided. Buy it, keep it and buy another is by far the best policy. Constant flipping really is a mugs game.

Nothing wrong with that, his watch etc etc and he obviously had other watches to wear.
If he was in 'nam he probably had a watch made out of someones Ear as a daily wearer.
That is exactly what I was thinking.
The case back sticker showed wear with fading. Definitely friction rub! Not unworn but is as close as too as there is in the world!

It is quite possible the video is staged and there is some embellishment and some questions about how ‘unworn’ it is.
Still a very rare given the condition and a ‘full set’ with receipts.
And worth a ‘lot of money’. How much exactly, one would only know when it comes up for sale.
