Cancelled - Brighton, Sunday 6th September

    *See post 21 - what's the interest for 5/9/21?*

I noticed this morning that the Ace Café Brighton Burn Up is scheduled for Sunday 6th September. Whilst I don't particularly want to ride with that crew (and they don't leave the Ace until 10.30 anyway) I was thinking that it would be fun if we were to make a day of it ourselves, meeting (say) at Cobham Services on the M25 at 8.30 and then aiming to get to Brighton for 9.30ish; this is the time that Madeira Drive opens to motorbikes for the day, so we'll be able to park without any pressure to go hunting for spaces.

We can obviously then take advantage of the Ace’s itinerary for the day without actually riding down with them. There will also be thousands of bikes to gawp at (and lots of blokes in leather, if that’s your thing), plentiful food, good music and anything else that's planned for the day by others.

I'm aware that this is a bit early, but I thought if I started a thread now we can all get it in the diary and plan well ahead to make sure the date is protected. Who's up for it?

Here's a little vid from the 2018 event, showing the vibe at Brighton albeit with a bit of setting off from the Ace:

Hi Tony, sounds good to me. I'll also check with my mate who came to the last ride but isn't on the Forum. He's in Southend on Sea so may fancy looking at another pier for a day :-)

    Count me in please.

OK if my eldest lad comes? He rides a GSXR-750 pretty well, so won't hold anyone up.

    Wanted - Damasko DC57

I'm in Tony. You can all stop at mine for a cuppa on the way down if you want. I'm just off the A23. About 20 mins from Brighton.

    Yes, of course, Andy.

Very kind, Ray, and we can think about that. However, given the likely numbers and the need to get there early in order to park up easily, I suspect that it'll be easier to meet at the services and then go straight on to Brighton.

Now, if you're offering dinner on the way home...

I think I can make this, subject to childcare.

Sorry just checked childcare - I have my son that weekend as school terms starts early sigh

Brilliant. I often miss this event through life just getting in the way. Now I have a reason to bookmark it and meet a few fellow forumers. Count me in. Thanks for taking the initiative.

Put me down as a provisional Tony. I shall confirm for definite nearer to the time if that’s ok.

Just thought I'd update this thread, as for obvious reasons we can consider it cancelled. Shame, as I was looking forward to a bit of BBQ over at Ray's house

Real shame! Hopefully we can do a few next year to make up for it.

I know - two good events lost to COVID! The Matlock weekend would have been brilliant.

Anybody up for this on 5th September this year? Just testing the water, really, as there may be a view that it's come round a little too early. That said, I'm sorely tempted.

I’m up for it yes. When I first said yes I had a rather nice Norton I could have used, somewhat downgraded to a triumph now, and if that sells I’ll be on a Fireblade.

  23. #23
I’ll check the diary when home, but yes would be great to meet up! Will be on the tangerine dream unless I swap it by then.

Well, it looks like I'll be my first proper ride on the Tiger 900, which will make it a substantially more comfortable journey! Anyone else interested, on the basis that we go with last year's plan of meeting at Cobham services at 0830?

I guess it'll end up being weather-dependent on the day, but fingers crossed as it'll only just have transitioned into Autumn.

Numbers can be exchanged nearer the time, Dave, all being well. Sure you don't fancy a ride too?

Unfortunately I'll (hopefully) be in France for the whole of September so I won't be around for this one. I expect lots of pics though as I'm always in Brighton for this and it's an amazing day out.

Just leave the key under the wheelie bin, Ray, and we'll sort out the BBQ!

  32. #32
Straight up, there's a BBQ Plancha outside ready to go and if anybody wants to camp in the paddock I'll leave the keys to the gate so they can. Otherwise, have fun and take pics just so I know what I missed!

I don’t think the forecast is looking very clever, Matt. Let’s keep an eye on it, and decide what we’re doing nearer the time.

Sounds good Tony… although I have a GS and you also have an ADV bike so two of us should be ok

I could carry that off I think Tony

BTW the Sunday Burn Up from Ace is cancelled…. Doesn’t stop us meeting for a ride though! Could still go to Brighton or somewhere else?

Oh, has it (and do you know why)?

Where about are you based, Matt?

I am a plonker! Was googling for details and last years came up…. This year is going ahead.

    North Hampshire near Alton/Loomies though

Dammit! I live in Brighton, right by Madeira Drive and I’m on dad duty all day. Might wander down with my son in the afternoon if the (car) tyre mobile repair guy arrives on time.

Well, the weather is looking a little more promising according to the forecasts, so with a bit of luck we can stick to the original plan (i.e. Cobham Services at 08.30), which will hopefully mean we can park up in Brighton somewhere that we can get away from easily when we want to.

Anyone else able to meet at Cobham is more than welcome. @tz-uk73, still up for it?

Oh, that's a shame. Mind you, the ride there would have been something of an anti-climax!

After a few hideous (and hideously busy) months I could do a stress relieving day off and a good ride out.

Unfortunately the stress continues unabated as we're moving into our new house this weekend. Typical!

Parking on the seafront is usually very well organised as Marshalls are there to allow only bikes onto the drive and the combination of decent bikers and HA in attendance means there’s never really an issue getting in and out safely.

I really hope that this continues this year. The council has installed a massive and controversial cycle Lane along Madeira drive so quite how they’ll manage things remains to be seen. They’ve banned bikes from the speed trials this year on safety grounds.

Not for me, unfortunately. I had some family-related stuff that prevented me from going in the end... too bad, as I was looking forward to it.
