    Timegrapher - Beat error

I bought one of these machines a few weeks ago, it's interesting

How important is the Beat Error?

I have a 46 year old, Tissot with a Valjoux 7734 movement, (Lift Angle 48 degrees?)

Face up and face down readings are

    Rate -4 secs and -7 sec/d
    Amplitude 275 and 282 degrees
    Beat Error 1.5ms and 1.8ms

If you are very careful, I have read that it is possible and not to difficult to adjust the beat error - but presumably I would not achieve much by doing so

With a vintage movement like that anything below 0.5ms is good. This movement is very easy to adjust the beat though so it should be better than this. Reduced beat error will improve consistency of amplitude in different positions and it will means the watch starts more easily from a stop when wound without shaking the watch.

If you are doing it yourself then get the beat error reduced first, then regulate the watch. This is because moving the hairspring stud will change the rate.

    Thanks
