I think my Sekonda 'Melody Alarm' LCD digital was about £25 in 1980. Four years later I remember buying a very cheap and nasty LCD watch for £1.50 to tide me over while my main watch was broken, at a little shop in Northampton. It gained a few seconds a day and had a bizarre bug where the minute count would go over 59 in some circumstances. It would sometimes report the time as (eg) 2:62 pm.
Had my first digital watch for going to the army in 77, cost me a couple of weeks wages and only lasted a couple of weeks. Died in the bottom of a swimming pool even though it was waterproof.

I was buying unbranded Melody Alarm digital watches for £6 a-piece in the early 80's from a local wholesaler and selling them on to workmates. The 'Yellow Rose of Texas' were extremely popular for some reason.
