Brian May Limited Edition new Seiko 5 Watch

Brian May inspired new Seiko 5 Watch, celebrating his legendary guitar ‘‘Red Special’’!
The new Seiko 5 Sports watch whose dial echoes the design of the guitar which Brian and his father built in the early 1960’s.
‘’I am delighted to see this watch come alive, and proud that the creation of me and my dad all those years ago has inspired this collaboration. I love my Seiko and it has served me well for many years. I will wear this new one with pride.” - Brian May

It’s a very strange thing really, wonder how many people would even know he’s a Seiko fan and worn a Seiko diver for decades. Seen old interviews with him wearing a 7548 & even in recent years he still does. I think it’s cool what he wore but don’t see the guitar on a diver tie in really.

Wonder how he feels about the WR and lack of screw down crown haha

Copped some only fools over xmas and Rodney also wears a 7548 (pepsi)

Would it be wrong to say I am not that keen on the man, his activities on the animal liberation front type thing.
Nothing to do with watches, which incidentally the new Seiko 5s are really growing on me, didn't think they could ever take over the SKX, they do look good

Totally agree. Why they have pursued this Queen without Freddie has diluted their legacy in my eyes. Its not as though they need the money. Hats off to John Deacon who wants nothing to do with it.

I only really liked Queen in the very early years. I found May's guitar sound irritating but he's a very good player.
I went to We will rock you many years ago, Laurie Wisefield (ex Wishbone Ash) played all the Queen stuff sounded just like May.

As to the watch? its great that he has worn the same Seiko for 30 years but why does that justify an awful special edition?

Having said that I do own a Dr Feelgood dial watch

Bumping this only because I am astonished at the frankly crazy prices people are asking for these on C24. This was a 'limited' edition of 9,000 pieces!

Queen and Rolling Stones fan, but I suspect this will be affordable to us mere mortals unlike the Ron Wood monstrosities. Looks pretty good too!

    I quite like it.

I’m sure Seiko will license a Queen track to market and they will agree just they did for... cars, sofas, cleaning products, etc

Such a shame that their excellent back catalog is pimped out in such a way... leccy bills need paying!

But the watch dial is a different colour to his guitar.

It just me or does the Ad look like one of those commemorative plate offers you got in the back of Sunday supplement magazines years ago?

I'm not a huge Queen fan in the slightest but I love the story of BM's guitar and I think the dial looks fantastic. £500 or so isn't exactly a lot and I've long wanted a sunburst red dial watch.

I've been a huge Queen and Brian May fan for the past 30+ years. This special edition doesn't really interest me however.

I think Seiko would have been better off reissuing some sort of signature version of the actual model of watch he's worn since 1986 which is the "transitional" model ref 7458-7010 (see link below).

I eventually tracked one down a couple of years ago from 1985 which I think was the only year they were produced before the 7C43 superseded the 7548.

    Cheers
    Neil

Ha!! yes indeed like the ones with spitfires on for D-day or the Queen's memoration.

I wonder if Seiko have put this new model under pressure ?

Must be about the 20th LE Seiko have announced this year @ we're still in January.

I've been a long term fan, but they are losing credibility with me.

Can't wait for the Liberace limited edition. Which brand will bring it out I wonder?

And now for the person who can handle a gold watch, here's the Brian May Seiko LE Mark II. RRP£530.
    Well. What can one say?

This has to be the worst tedious watch collaboration ever.

Ah now Alan is he the ginger one or the scowling dark one, both to the right of the Jesuscat at the supper. Initially I thought the ginger since Judas was often portrayed as a redhead in the Middle ages but then the expression on the dark faced cat, 2nd from the messiah, is really quite fearsome, any feline theologians care to comment..either way such attention to detail and fine artistry is to be celebrated.

I'm no theologian but the silver British shorthair on the left is the only one adopting the pose of Judas in the original da Vinci picture.

Wonder how much Brian May achieves out of this, financially?
