Fondly remembered
RIP Derek Fowlds aka Oscar Blaketon.
RIP Derek and thanks for bringing us Basil brush when I was a nipper.
Colin.
With reference to my time spent long ago in a rural police force, I was always impressed with the accuracy of his portrayal of a country station sergeant.
A fine actor.
For those of us of a certain vintage, Basil Brush had a touching tweet.

A fine actor who didn't take himself too seriously. From the interviews I've seen, a funny and instantly likeable bloke. Up there with the likes of Nigel Hawthorn and Paul Eddington and a central part of what made Yes, Minister/Yes, Prime Minister such a huge success. RIP Derek.
Very sad. Loved Yes Minister

Very sad, Mr Derek was one of dear old Basil's best friends...
A great actor and Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister were both unmissable programs.
RIP Mr Derek
Sad news. This is genius....

RIP.
RIP Derek. I thoroughly enjoyed his acting. I see that one of the "popular" rags have said that Basil Brush is leading tributes to him. I suppose they may not realise that Basil Brush is a puppet! Derek would definitely have a giggle at that one!
A wonderful actor, always seemed genuinely nice.
Brilliant in Yes minister.
RIP Derek.
Cheers,
Neil.
I loved Basil Brush as a kid and enjoyed Yes Minister equally. I’ll admit o had no idea they were the same ‘Mr Derek’ until he sadly passed away. Sounds like a lovely chap, RIP

RIP.
I wonder how him as in Yes Minster would have got in with him as in Heartbeat.
A great actor and somehow I think both would have got on, even if such different characters, as underneath he seemed so decent, and nice as Neil C. said.
Br,
AP.
RIP Mr Derek
