All over social media is the decade challenge. People are posting a photo of them in the present day and 10 years ago. Got me thinking about how the watch collection has changed over the last decade.
I got into watches around 2007 so by 2009/10 I was firmly in the 'but loads of stuff with no real direction stage' it was also the time I bought my first 'proper' watch, a Breitling Chronomatic 49. I still have it, along with several other watches in this photo:
Fast forward a decade and the collection has grown slightly. I buy far more infrequently these days, a combination of slightly more expensive tastes and no money!
I took this last year but all I've added since then is a BLRO, a Pelagos and a couple of G-Shocks (I will take an updated photo at some point).

Many, many watches have come and gone in the intervening decade but I'm happy where I've ended up.

As mentioned above, no subs. I have two 16600's. One a work watch, one a rarely worn one. The other is a 116600. A very different watch. The SD is my favourite Rolex, hence the repetition.
The Spork is my favourite Seiko and the RAF Chrono is my favourite Pulsar too.

Challenge accepted -- but it's easy, because the story is very simple.
In January 2010, my "collection" was . . . . . .
. . . . . . all Swiss; two quartz and one mechanical.
In the intervening decade, the Cartier was sold and this . . .
. . . . came and went.
All other incomings have stayed, so today I have . . . . . .
. . . . . . all Swiss or German; one quartz and thirteen mechanical.
Do I think the collection has improved? Yes.

This decade is a bit of a weird one because so much has happened which has influenced how and what we buy. Instagram and Hodinkee have had an incredible impact plus there seems to be a lot of cash around for people to spend their money on. 10 years ago Rolex were not as common as they currently are on the forum for instance.
I also think we have more younger collectors (say under 40) - this includes myself. I joined this forum at 23/24 years old. So naturally this decade means I have been able to spend more indulging in this hobby. No pics - but the big differences from a decade ago is the amount I've spent on watches and the number of watches - i had around 4/5 watches in 2010, now around 15 (G shocks don't count....)
Now we know why he’s got no money! Lovely collection.
I’ve spent the last 10 years or so trying out brands, styles, sizes etc. I’ve come to a conclusion on the type of watch I prefer; dive/sports style, 40 to 42mm, bracelet or nato, applied markers, usually a date, auto, black dial. It’s not a list set in stone, but my collection broadly reflects these tastes.
I’ll try and dig out some pictures.

Both about 7 years old here

The Daytona came next in 2010 after 5 years on the list, they were £4400 when i signed up and grey was a grand over, paid a bit under £7k for my principals,Seadweller from a friend came next and the rest are from fellow members.M/first,Railmaster,GMT and Sub in that order.
I still have the Ti Seamaster and the Raymond Weil, and the only sale was a 16753 sold to a fellow member and to be replaced with a Nipple dial at such time as one comes up.
My phone camera lens has taken a beating over time,pictures are embarrassing.

To be honest, it sits in the bank these days so I don't really consider it one of the collection. In terms of the rise in price, I haven't looked for a while. I'd imagine they are stunted somewhat of late and may go up again in the next 3 to 6 years.
