No Longer Able To Access Some Regular Websites - Advice Appreciated

Today I have lost Virgin Media wireless connection to at least 3 sites I use very regularly:

    Fitbit.com

    Garmin Connect

    Fuelly.com

I am getting the message 'this site can't be reached', yet I can access them on my 4G vodafone mobile phone network.

I have cleared my cache and rebooted both my laptop and my router to no avail.

I'm no techie and would appreciate any thoughts on why this has happened and any possible solution.

If you connect your phone to wifi - can you access them? If you cant access those sites on your phone over wifi, you'll know its not device specific and your router in the house is the issue.

If you've activated parental filtering recently - it might block sites like those with a "social" element. My BT filtering blocks the likes of that by default (well.. it blocked Facebook).

Just a guess but have you tried, Chrome, Internet explorer or a different web browsers?

Log into myvirginmedia and check service status, and then run a test on there, worth a try if you haven’t already

Probably their DNS servers that look up the address of the site you want. Change to using Googles DNS (for example) see https://developers.google.com/speed/...dns/docs/using. You can just do it on one of your devices to see if it fixes things

I did try that Johnny and can only access on my phone through 4G but not my wifi.

    No kids, no filters.

I'm on Sky and it too also blocks the social sites. Well, the ones that allow me to socialise with local horny housewives anyway.

Happy to report that the sites that were not responding are now.

I have no idea why this is but it's sorted.

    Thank you for your replies.

It’s funny how there’s so many hot single mums 2miles away, yet I’ve never seen them in my local morrisons.

OP - have you tried rebooting the router, You can do it via the admin console online but actually much easier to cut the power, wait two minutes and see.

Edit - seen it’s sorted. Could have just been virgin being overloaded at peak times. Mine is slow on some sites occasionally.

If it happens again, try flushing your DNS cache.
