Panerai Equation of Time - PAM670

This has been an aspired acquisition for around 18 months. I've sold various watches to fund this, most notably my beautiful Rolex Hulk (which was my 'keeper') and stunning blue dialled Panerai PAM932 'Mediterraneo'. Three days in and absolutely no regrets and don't expect to have any. I'm amazed at how wearable this is and surprisingly subtle on the wrist.

It has so many things I enjoy in a Panerai - titanium case, domed crystal, beautiful dial, power reserve indicator, 8 day manual wind, easy strap change mechanism, waterproof and Luminor. On top it has seconds reset, AM/PM indicator, GMT, independent hours adjustment, date, month and the Equation of Time. All layed out in a beautiful bi-compax format.

Here is a simple explanation of the EoT from Panerai Central:

The equation of time is the measurement of the difference between actual time and the conventional time used in everyday life. It is a classic complication of Haute Horlogerie, which harks back to the ancient link between time measurement and astronomy. Because of the elliptical orbit of the Earth round the Sun and the particular tilt of the Earth’s axis of the rotation in relation to the equator, a day is exactly 24 hours long only four times in a year, while on all other days there is a difference between real time (solar day) and conventional time, by which a day may be up to about 15 minutes longer or shorter, depending on the time of the year. This information is displayed on the linear indicator on the bottom of the dial.

Here is a super article on Hodinkee, introducing the watch and also explaining the Equation of Time: https://monochrome-watches.com/paner...-review-price/

    And another:

The strap is one I had for my 389 and is just for now. I'm short of time these days, but already have straps on order and more in my head to be made, so in months to come will share pics of these.

See this post for how adaptable the watch is https://www.rolexforums.com/showpost...95&postcount=4

Sorry, the quality of the pics are rubbish. One day I'll hopefully have time to do better.

What an amazingly pointless yet awesome complication the EoT is, I absolutely love it.

Superb indeed. But I would have expected the month hand to be on the first marker, not just past December.

That'll make a lovely change for you. Must admit that your comment about the blue dial at that gallery event the other year made my mind up that I would go blue rather than tobacco, albeit I have a tobacco already :)

Drat, that's my fault. All that adjusting and I get the wrong bleedin' month. Thanks for flagging that.

Such a cool complication, reminds me of a moon phase in its attempt to tell the story of time telling.

Initially I thought it was me. Sorry!

It is still a spectacular watch.

On my last visit to Harrods I saw one of these. Very nice.

I saw you post it on the Friday thread and was going to google the equation of time complication because despite the guy from Panerai talking to me about it for 20minutes I couldn’t really remember, that and the one paragraph below sums it up better.

Enjoy it, certainly more special than a hulk IMO.

Wow I love the watch, what a beautiful dial and a complication I never knew existed!

Fascinating watch with plenty going on. Never knew that there is such a thing as an equation of time complication. Every day is a school day. Thank you for enlightening me.

Now off to find which other watches have it.

    That blue is beautiful.
With the vast amount of models is there such a thing as that blue sandwich dial, 8 day movement, titanium case but a clean dial?
    So basically a two hander.

Alas not. All of my current 47mm Panerai are titanium and it does make then so much less flashy.

That's a shame, I do find myself more attracted to non polished cases of late. I had a Pam 320 and have been on the lookout for something to replace it
    Yours is lovely though.

    That is a cracking watch.

Have always dreamed of owning a watch with the EoT complication. I’d be forever hoping to be asked what it was for.

Well done on your lovely acquisition. It’s miles nicer and many miles more interesting than a Hulk.

Just had a read through that thread, thanks.
I do like the 233, but would like something with a cleaner sandwich dial.

Cleaner sandwich dial? Doesn’t get any cleaner than 372 or its numerous derivatives

47mm titanium 8 days? 368? No blue dial though

That is a thing of beauty. I’ve just ordered a 1033 which has the same dial and lume colour so I’m interested in what’s straps you’ve gone for. Look forward to the pictures.

    Enjoy in good health Alun.

    Thanks :)

Congrats on the 1033, a more rational choice with some great features.

Re straps have a few on their way and a few to be ordered now the watch is here. I can see a State Of The Strap Collection post coming along in a month or so.

I hadn’t realised that there was such a complication available on a wrist watch, most interesting. What a lovely watch, as others have said, and in my opinion far nicer than the Hulk. Will be sure to check back on this thread for updates with the new straps.

What an utterly useless, nerdish complication that prob only a handful of people in the world knew existed. Fantastic!! I'd have that watch just to bring a smile to my face whenever I wore it. Love that photo of the two watches.
