    R.I.P. Edd "Kookie" Byrnes

For you old American TV buffs, one of our original teen idols/heartbeats is gone - - "Kookie" from 77 Sunset Strip. Edd Byrnes passed away today from an apparent stroke at age 86. He was the subject of a million-selling song, "Kookie, Kookie, Lend Me Your Comb," and was smothered by as many as 18,000 screaming fans at U.S. airports.

Byrnes played the part of the cool parking lot attendant "Kookie" for the restaurant downstairs in the swank office building where "private eyes" Stu Bailey and Jeff Spencer practiced. "Kookie" was such a hit with fans he was often utilized by the PIs to help in their cases.

I have to admit, he was one of my boyhood idols! R.I.P. Kookie.

More famous to my generation as the 'main brain' Vince Fontaine, the visiting pervy DJ in 'Grease'.
