Canal cruise was enjoyable and my brother in law enjoyed the Heineken tour, said it tasted far superior.
Been a few times and these tours are great. It’s free but you are asked for a donation at the end and I gave 20 euros. They will also sort you out a river tour which are also great.

Personally I wouldn’t bother with either of the tours you have mentioned, especially the Heineken one as it’s a waste of money IMO. The windmill pub nearby however is great for beer, cheese and meat!

Last time I was there for work, and our Hotel (and the venue for the meeting) was the Hotel Pulitzer, very nice and quite central. But the best thing was the Bussia Restaurant, just rund the corner. I went there with my group, and enjoyed both the a la carte menu, and the pizza for some of us. One of us was vegan and ate well, I love fish and that menu was nice too.
I think you should not miss the VanGogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, plus the Artis zoo if you are with kids. The conference party was in an old ship in the Harbour, but do not remember the name.

Van Gogh museum for sure - and you definitely need to book your tickets online in advance.
The visit changed my opinion from 'a nutter with a paint box and poor understanding of perspective' to 'a genius, one of the 5 greatest painters to have ever lived'.
And buy some stroopwafels at the supermarket.
If you like Belgian beer check Elfde Gebod pub on Zeedijk. Amazing place.
If you like craft beers the brewery next to the windmill is well worth a visit. Its a bout 30 min walk outside of city centre.

I went here in November last year on the strength of past G&D threads. We turned up about 10 mins before it opened so walked around the block to kill time. We were back outside at opening time and had about 8 people queuing. By the time we were seated the queue was long enough that there wasn't enough room and people were being told it was at least an hours wait! I don't think reservations were an option.
As for drinks, I did the Star Wars trilogy of cocktails. The drinks were nice and the presentation was fun. We saw someone order a drink which involved a sparkler and someone else had one that had them holding a full size parasol as opposed to having a cocktail umbrella in the glass.
Also based on search of G&D Amsterdam threads we went to In de Buurt. It was OK but not worth the money really. It seemed to be a 'trendy' place to be.
Based on my own research I went for a Saturday morning trip to the FoodHallen, very much like Spitalfields food court if you have ever been there. I got there just before the kiosk/stalls opened and just about got a place to sit. I got a selection from Bitterballen

A bit left field but my Son recommended a visit to the small sleepy town of Weesp. I had a lovely brunch there and couple of beers before catching the train back to central Amsterdam It was a really nice change from normal busy tourist stuff.
House of Bols. Just visited to kill time BUT we enjoyed it far more than we thought we would. The mirror bar at the end was great, the staff were really friendly letting you taste the various drinks. Tour includes a cocktail but we had lots are they were really well made and cheap as it was effectively marketing.
I think you can only visit anne frank by booking online, obviously highly recommended to visit.
