Just letting my mind wander yesterday during a quiet afternoon at work.......amongst other thoughts I thought about selling on my Sea Dweller. It's a 2003 full set, box papers anchor etc. It's in excellent condition and will shortly be going in for a service (gasp......how much?).
So I wondered how much such watches were currently going for, post service. I was astounded to see prices on-line from £6.5-8k !!!
When did that happen? I've had my watch about 10 years and clearly not kept abreast of pricing. Should I also up the value on my insurance?

I serviced mine a couple of years ago and it was £430.
Prices are high but as always, the SD doesn't seem to reach the heights of other models, (despite being the best!)
The market in used Rolex watches has been dragged up by the non availability of the current models and as those trade for crazy money on the secondary market people over time have turned to the older out of production models and those in turn have shot up in value as availability of those becomes more restricted.

Agree at 6.5-8K they are great value in todays Rolex world.

I recently picked up a freshly serviced 16600 (1994 trit dial) from a bricks and mortar jewellers for £6995. He'd had it in the window for a few months at £8k and then £7.5k and it didn't sell, so maybe prices are softening a little?
I paid 7.5K for 1991 Trit on here 2 months ago.
Serviced and papers though no accessories.

I've a later 16600 and rarely wear it but every time I do it feels so much more substantial than a standard sub, in a good way. I quite fancy a trit SD and sent an enquiry for the one on SC today but unsurprisingly too late. Interesting that it sold so quickly on here but seemingly not for just a little more on eBay.
My friend was quite surprised a couple of years ago. He bought a second hand Sea Dweller, for £300 odd, when he was in the 6th form in the late 1970s. He wore it for decades and it showed. When he eventually decided to get rid, turns out it was a double red. It was well worn and I'm not sure he had B&P but I think he was probably underpaid for it by a jewellers at £10,000.

Thought so. I had a long, hard think about that watch a month or so ago (but turned it down because of too many service parts for my liking). A lovely, ‘as new’ 16600 though. I wondered what had happened to it!
I thought £8k was a bit toppy but when it was reduced I caved in. I hesitated due to replacement hand set but that was my only concern.
I'm regularly seeing subs at well over 8k now so SDs seem better value bet by far. Not sign of the Rolex hype machine slowing at the moment.
