World's first 350km/hr driverless bullet train commences service in China

    https://edition.cnn.com/travel/artic...ina/index.html

As the countdown to the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics continues, the new 108-mile high-speed railway line connecting the capital with Olympic host city Zhangjiakou has just entered service, cutting the travel time between the two from three hours to 47 minutes.

If it kills a few dozen errant people on the tracks each lap, WTF, just helps with the population purge.

A driver is going to make no difference to that. I’ve sat in a 200+ mph train between Shanghai and Beijing. The scenery passes very quickly and you are not stopping any time soon if someone wanders onto the tracks.

The above is true. The amount of damage to the train however is unbelievable. It is likely that a lot of sensors are in front and the train will be immobilised.

Wow! I wish all of my train travel was reduced by that margin. We are still rolling around in trains from the 80s.

I arrived in this country in 1997. The trains to Charring Cross were slamdoors.

The most ground-breaking piece of news in that article is that the trains will have appropriate luggage provision. I've lost count of the number of UK trains with practically no space for suitcases and where the overhead shelf is big enough for a newspaper and a flat cap.
    In the Sotadic Zone, apparently.

    Really? Oh, well...
I thought at the time it was so quaint. And to add insult to injury, the trains to replace them didn’t fit (I don’t know the details of that one, unfortunately) and although delivered it took over a year to see them in service. They still are, although I imagine that HS1 takes the bulk of London commuters. Yours for over £6k/year!
