Corporal punishment isn't allowed these days, *UPDATE post #22*

    ... I regret that.

The Notts Police Twitter has a message about a Belgian Shepherd tied to a big stone, found in the River Trent.

    Luckily the dog has survived.

As a dog lover, in fact as a decent human being, that makes my blood boil. The poor dog looks bereft of all hope, I hope it makes a full recovery and finds some deserving owners.

Hope to God the magistrate is a dog lover and sends it up to Crown.

This should be treated as if it were a human - if you can do it to an animal you can do it to a human too.

With you on this - at best this horrible crime will be "punished" with a fine (that probably won't be paid), and a short ban on keeping animals (that won't be enforced).

A sound birching would make for a real deterrent that doesn't cost taxpayers significantly.

Yes, it would breach her human rights, but that is an indication that those have not been well implemented. All laws are as fallible as the humans that made them...

I don't feel this is an overreaction - I own two rescue dogs, and my social media feeds are full of several cases like this every day. And that's just dogs...

I can't express how I feel about this on a public forum. What man can do to animals makes me despair, and believe me I'm no tree hugger.

Hopefully 'Finns Law part 2' will soon be enacted. If you have the time please inform your MP that you wish the to support it.

    Speechless.
The perpetrator should be given the same treatment - tied to a boulder and thrown in the same river for at least half a minute and feel the same fear before any rescue.

Yup, quite agree, tie her to a stake and let her drown in a river. An eye for an eye. I really hope the dog finds some owners who love him and that he lives a wonderful rest of his life (or her).

Having fostered a number of rescue dogs I'm only too aware of just how badly some people can cause terrible abuse to animals.

Well done to the woman who got into the river and rescued this dog.

The dog was chipped and that has led to the arrest of a 31 y/o woman and a 32 y/o man!

    https://www.standard.co.uk/news/crim...-a4327906.html

    And now some justice please.

Unfortunately that is highly unlikely, they will be looking at a fine (which will probably remain unpaid) and an animal ownership ban probably 10 years.

I just don't understand why anyone who wants to do this would even want to own a dog. Mine virtually owns my life

I saw picture of the 'owners' on Twitter - they looked exactly how you'd expect.

Seriously I can forgive most things. This?.....no. In fact I am ashamed to say I think I’d do time for how I’d react if I saw someone doing this to a dog.

    Scum

    Let's change this.

Can I once again ask that you please write to your MP regarding Finns Law part 2.

    Basically......

"The second part of the Bill - Animal Welfare (Sentencing Bill) - proposes to increase sentencing powers for crimes against service animals. Specifically, it will see the maximum sentence increased from six months to five years."

Not a dog person but when I saw this in the news, the picture of the Alsatian on the table, the look in its eye, don’t think I’ll be forgetting that for a long time.

I don’t normally vindicate summary justice but, in this instance, I hope anyone who recognises the owners in the street beats them to within an inch of their lives. Furthermore, I hope this happens every time that they leave their house - and for a very long time.

That happened to the fine young gentlemen who filmed themselves repeatedly throwing a staffy pup down the stairs and ultimately killing it when they weren't jailed.
    GOOD.
