    You’re going to be saddled with lots of costs, but hay, if it is your passion, then go for it. Just make sure you have a stable income and rein in the other expenditures. If you find you can’t hack it, you can always try another tack and do a bit of horse trading for a sports car or boat. Just be mentally prepared so you don’t bridle when the first vets bill comes in.

    Our local garage owner’s wife has a horse, he’s not a horse fan and refers to it as ‘the shit machine’, in his view it just turns money into shit........I guess he’s got a point!
