    Favourite movie scenes or clips.

We have a thread for favourite films but what about your favourite film scene or clip? If a video of it exists then post it up, if not simply describing it is good too. I have quite a few favourites and I'm betting most will appear fairly early on!

So here's one of my favourites, featuring unrequited love and Suzanne Somers!

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

The ones that spring to mind are:

The crescendo in The Godfather while they're at the baptism
The intro to Sound of Music
Pacino and DeNiro meet in Heat
Helicopters over the horizon in Apocalypse Now
    Final scene in Usual Suspects

Goes off before they start dancing but always makes me laugh probably an obscure film for many people but apparently not far from the truth of what went on in the early 90s

This is an easy one for me.

    Casablanca 1942.

The Germans begin singing 'Die Wacht am Rhein' and Claude Rains looks to Bogart. Paul Henreid then goes to the orchestra telling them to play 'The Marseillaise'. The orchestra leader looks to Bogie who affirms the command. The French Nationals then join in to drown out the Germans.

The camera captures the (genuine) tears on the face of Madeleine LeBeau at 1:14. At the end of the anthem she cries out 'Vive la France'.

France had fallen to Nazi forces, and many of the actors performing in the scene including LeBeau were real-life refugees from Europe.

I have watched the film countless times but never fail to feel the hairs on the back of my neck standing up at this point.

I remember watching the film "Smoke" with Harvey Keitel, when I was a student.

There's a scene with a single camera shot, one continuous take, that slowly zooms in on Keitel as he tells a story sat at a table. Starting with a wide shot from the moment he lights up a cigarette until the moment he takes the last drag and stubs it out, zoomed in on the end, with the final words of his monologue.

That's the scene that got me fascinated with cinematography, the direction and continuity.

The best scene in any film however, is the Cantina scene in Episode IV.

    Han shot first.

    Absolutely!

There's too many scenes to list here from Kubrick films: In the Shining the "lady in the hotel bedroom" scene still gives me the creeps everytime. Also "the writing scene" gives me goosebumps.

    https://youtu.be/4lQ_MjU4QHw

From 2001: A Space Odyssey - the ape throwing the stick in the air which then cuts to the Spaceship and the Blue Danube. Also Hal going mad.

It's not Kubrick but the scene from Shawshank Redemption when the Governor throws chess pieces at the poster and then makes the shocking discovery (and then the sequence showing how it was done), makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

So many scenes from The Graduate are superb but the Hotel Lobby scence is probably my favourite, Hoffmann hilariously portrays the bumbling awkwardness of trying to hide that he's there for an affair. And the final Wedding scene of course.

The final racing scenes in Rush had my wife literally on the edge of her seat even though she hates F1!

Pretty much any boxing scene from Raging Bull.

And the unhinged couldn't give a **** menace of Paddy Considine here in Dead Man's Shoes (warning - language)

Glad someone bought up that classic. It is on the CD of the soundtrack and it cracks me up just listening to it. The film is a cracker from start to finish. This scene is another favourite :

Another one from the early 60s car culture tale, American Graffiti, featuring a young Harrison Ford as Bob Falfa in the mean black '55 Chevy.

So Milner's the hero in the '32 deuce coupe, but how many would rather be associated with the Falfa character?

Me.....? I'm in the black '55!

Yeah, that black '55 was really fast...and Falfa's chick was way hotter than Milner's!
