Thread: Would You Wear a 'Replica' Rolex - Like This Guy ?

I've only ever seen one Sinn in the wild and, much to my dismay, l never got the chance to comment upon it - l wouldnt just barge up to someone and start talking watches!
It was nice to see a non-default decision out and about.

Intersting how this thread turned. Not unusual here on TZ.

I suspect most on the forum are very nice to meet in person but do come over as needlessly argumentative in the forum world. Shame.

There is a difference between stating that you and a couple of others have heard it (which I don't think anyone doubt for a second) and generalising it to say it's a common expression. In this case, the evidence supported by 2 or 3 or even 10 doesn't count as experience on the matter. I could tell you that everybody in England can speak French based on my family here, people I've worked with in different companies, etc. They would all confirm they can speak French too yet my assumption would be wrong.

    Of course, you are correct.
Not my point exactly though. But - fair play- you just threw him a rubber ring. I'd hate to see a man drown.

Hardly. I would disagree that you could possibly know you and others have met more people than me.

When the silly names stop we might continue. Reminds me of the kid in class who starts name calling in an attempt to sidetrack the discussion to be honest.

    Have a nice day.

You know, that's my opinion of you also.
Except, in class, l never sidetracked the discussion - l was there to learn.

l don't see a need to throw you any more lifelines. The only question that remains is whether or not you're big enough not to bite one last time.

Have a good night too. :)

You made some sweeping statements, which I questioned, and your only recourse was to resort to insults and attempting to demean.
You don’t need to throw me any lifelines thanks.

How do you think some of the forum members have so many posts lol, I can see on this thread alone maybe a dozen or so posts from certain members that are utter dribble and are of no real use in this debate. keeps them happy though lol

When I'm out on my road bike or doing any sort of work where I may damage and of my expensive watches, I wear a £20 Casio A163WA-1QES

Even Rolex make cheap copies of their watches. They call them Tudor.

I was tempted to point out that Fortis did actually sell the first automatic wrist watch but then I remembered I was in the real world where no-one gives a toss

You see, what you're doing there is, in a rather paranoid way, hinting that l may be lying about my experiences... or at least, in your mind, somebody is... that's one of the ugliest, most paranoid behavioural traits l can think of...and much of the reason l chose to challenge your train of thought - you actually prefer to believe that people are liars than consider that you are wrong...

...as for the "last word" comment... If you go back a post or two, you're pretty much recycling one of my comments... so...

Can you actually leave it there? Can you? If so, thank you - I'll happily have the last word...

    ...but can you let me...?

I see logic in keeping the real thing safe but no logic in buying a replica then telling people you have the real thing at home.

If you worked on a farm, you would most probably go out and buy a quad and not a Ducati. G-shock all the way.

I thought the most irrational thing on the planet was that Pluto got downgraded to a planetoid from a full-fledged planet.

Because you associate WISdom with wearing fakes? A simple and cheap but genuine Casio is much more in line with WISdom that fakes in my book.

It's called context. In a thread called 'Would you wear a 'Replica' Rolex - Like this guy?, Spesh said that if what he was going to do risked damaging a valuable watch, he preferred to use a cheap Casio (= rather than wear a fake, which is the excuse used in the OP's example).

Yes, that's what the thread was about, but in my post I said nothing whatsoever about fakes, either pro or anti. Personally I'd expect a proper WIS to wear something rather more exotic or interesting in any context rather than a sensible Casio or a dodgy fake.

I can accept that’s what you meant but I suggest you make it more explicit next time. In the context, advocating against the choice of a real (if humble) watch meant, at least to me, that you were advocating the alternative, i.e. a fake.

me, i'm not into fakes, but i'm also inclined not to get too down on what other people place on their wrist - i'm sure they have their reasons.
