I'm part way into the Remi Martin VSOP and I'm just not impressed.
Not a patch on the 1738.

Has anyone got any recommendations in the £35-£40 bracket.

I have a boxed bottle of Portuguese brandy, given to me about 12 years ago. Giver raved about it, saying it was the best he'd had.

Wish I could find the bloody thing, I'd crack it today.

Only after you describe the taste of bitter compared to lager.

Almost out of Armagnac here. Will have to switch to the Calvados - disaster!

    Bump up!

I bought a bottle of £15 Aldi "Chevalier" Cognac yesterday. "How good can a £15 bottle of cognac be" you may ask? Surprisingly very, very decent indeed! I mean it's never going to beat a bottle of Hennessy XO but it certainly knocks the spots off Courvoisier. Highly recommended.

I've a soft spot for Hennessy. There was always a bottle in the house when I was growing up so it reminds me of home. I was in Cognac for an event in 2019 and took a tour of the distillery which was really interesting. I'm also partial to Armagnac.

I'm going to try that. I like to have a bottle of brandy on the house for every day use. By that I mean an occasional brandy and soda or ginger ale, or to use in cooking. My current go to is St Remy brandy, which is pretty good. But I'm happy to give a similarly price cognac a go.

I love a good malt, but it isn't so great for my stomach. Tried brandy - no likeee....

BUT - a good Calvados is much better!

Try a small bottle, see what you think

    Smooth, warm and mellow.
+1 for the Spanish Brandy from me.
