Gourgeous JLC! Make the finest movements. Do tell more about it? (Only have an AC myself - must slip it on!).

    Hi Martyn

There are some really great reviews of this watch online, and I really recommend taking a look at them.
They will do a far far better job than I could do but here are a few key facts (IMHO)

The JLC Master 8 Day Perpetual Calendar is, in relative terms, one of the most accessible perpetual calendar complications around:
    - keenly priced (relative)
    - “perfect” 40mm case diameter and sensible case height, and, unlike it’s cousin the JLC Ultrathin PC, has just enough heft and weight that it doesn’t feel too lightweight.
    - discreet in steel, with steel dial and mainly monochrome colour scheme
    - hand wound 8DAY power reserve, allowing weekly winding to keep the calendar up to date
    - single pusher recessed into the case at 8O’C allows all of day, date, month and year to be adjusted with one push per day, if the watch hasn’t been worn/wound for a while and needs adjusting to the current date - very easy and convenient!
    - subtle, beautiful, classic, complexity and simplicity all rolled into one
    - not easy to photograph well, but I will get me camera out some time soon :)

My old Cartier chronoflex has a PC. However with it being quartz it needed reset at a battery change, and the process to reset the PC would test Brian Cox.
Luckily the date display is a sub dial that is way too small for my ageing eyes to read anyway.

I've been fortunate enough to own two JLC PCs...

Both gorgeous watches, but the keeper was the GO. I've had it for about seven years now.

2100, I think, to take account of a leap-year anomaly that I can't quite remember. I could be wrong in that some might not need adjusting.

Years ending in -00 are only leap years if they are exactly divisible by 400; therefore 2000 was a leap year, but 2100 won't be.

Ah yes, that’s it. Although I think IWC have got round that somehow.

I used to own a lot of PCs. Personal Computers... The only abbreviation that most people know, outside horology.

This is from the 1994 IWC catalogue, about the Da Vinci:

The mechanical calendar movement in the Da VInci is not about to be fooled by any petty irregularities. Nevertheless, you should remember two dates on which it will require the attention of a watchmaker: March 1, 2100, and early January 2200.

We crafted the calendar in such a way that the date display keeps track of each leap year until the year 2100. According to the calendar issued by Pope Gregory XIII, this leap year is the exception to the rule in that it is not a leap year - and as such requires the first intervention by your watchmaker.

Then, you'll be spared further inconvenience for another hundred years. In early January 2200, the century slide for the years 2200 to 2499 should be installed in your Da Vinci (see glass vial).

Once and for all, we wish to stress that we did not design the Da Vinci in this manner to refer business to your watchmaker. The concept is based solely on our intention to lengthen the time you can spend with the Da Vinci.
