Thread: Who’s broken up for Christmas?

  1. #1

    Who’s broken up for Christmas?

So, who has called time for Christmas?

Now, I know it’s not big or clever, but this is the G&D where you can relax over a pint or two, so that’s just what I’m doing.

After 30+ years of grafting, this is the earliest that I have broken up for Christmas, I’m now the owner of my own business, employed my son in July and I’m currently enjoying a few beers with him.

I’m looking forward to this one, we’re going to have a full week off and hopefully a bright 2020 awaits us.

I hope everyone manages to get a slice of peace and good will.

If only I could get him to put that bloody phone down!

I broke up for Christmas around fourteen years ago and never looked back.

I broke up for Christmas in 2009 and never went back, never forget seeing all the neighbours (and wifey) going back to work in January whilst I enjoyed a leisurely breakfast

And I thank you for it sir!

I'm off now until the 28th. We're open tomorrow but I'm not there. We were going to open Monday but as Christmas is midweek, I decided to shut and give the boys an extra day off.

Unfortunately not. Took the afternoon off to pick up the Boy up from school so he didn't have to go to after school club but back in on Monday and Tuesday. The urgent work is done (unless something has cropped up this afternoon) so, fingers crossed, it should be an easy ride into Christmas.

Broke up a couple of years ago (but do a little on my own terms)
Worked 27 out of 33 Christmases before that.
Was always a bit of fun at work though!

Off to 06-01 now and then only 1/2 day as the Dutch Government don’t give us the keys to our new building until 12 AND we have to have a celebratory lunch afterwards (Dutch working lunch, so sandwiches and milk).

Finish 17:30 on Monday, until new years eye.
But will be volunteering at Crisis on the 23rd and 26-29th night shifts so straight out of the office and head up to London for the first.
Then back in the office on the 31st and then head off for a private job New Year's eve.

Finished work on 31 August this year. Could have looked back - but haven’t - best decision ever - you only get your time once (so it appears). Flying off to Portugal on 6th Jan - loving the freedom.

Yeah, to hell with it, I can't be bothered any more, so I'm done for 2019, unless someone comes up with some work I can bill for!

Will be my longest Xmas break in years, as usually I'm busy trying to close projects by year end or just spending the Xmas to New Year gap doing some much needed admin, but for whatever reason (a lot of clients are telling us it's Brexit) the last six months have been very quiet, so there's nothing really left to do.

I fear 2020 may not really be any better...

And on that joyful note, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2020!

School teacher, so now on holiday til 6/1. Made a big decision recently...retiring in 2022 when I’ll be 55. Recently qualified as a counsellor so will try self employment for the first time in my life.

    Happy Christmas all.

I'm working today and should be home by 7pm, then 8 straight days off to be back on the 30th and a half day on the 31st, then off again until 3rd Jan.

It has only been the last 3 Christmases, including this one, that I've had any meaningful time off over the festive period, it still feels like a luxury. A friend of mine finished last Wednesday and isn't back to work until the 6th Jan...

One of the minor drawbacks with being retired (a permanent holiday) is the loss of the 'whoopee' factor when you finished work for a long break such as Christmas. Same with going on holiday, much of the appeal is that you're not going to work for a while.

I always tried to get as a long a break as possible over Christmas/New Year. My Birthday's Jan 4th and I often ended up going back to work on that day.

Last day this year was the 19th as I'd been a bit of a muppet & had 3 days leave to take or lose.

    Back on the 2nd.

I broke up on Friday, back on the 2nd for a few weeks then hopefully finish for good at the end of Jan!

Delighted to report I’m working until Wednesday, back on the 2nd. I rather enjoy work, not a big fan of the enforced jollity of Christmas and find a few days off more than enough. Save my holiday for bright warm days not grey cold and wet ones where it’s dark after 3.30pm!

I broke up Friday at 4.30. Got a call from the boss asking me to fix a few things. Finished again at 9.30pm. Then got a call Saturday morning asking for some backwards compatibility testing and modification. All has been quiet today....
