Anyone on here play the Banjo?

Well, about 20-25yrs ago I bought a lovely 5 string (bluegrass) banjo and it’s taken until now for me to decide to start to learn to play the thing!
I have had the banjo re-strung & properly set up and also signed up for basic lessons from a nearby tutor from mid Jan, I’ve also bought the self teach books and watched a lot of the videos on YouTube etc, any other hints or tips from more experienced players would be greatly appreciated.
Posting a pic of your banjo if you have one as well would be great.
PS - cue the Deliverance jokes...

I can’t offer you any hints or tips, but hopefully this might provide you with some inspiration.

Steve Martin (yes, THAT Steve Martin) is an incredible banjo player. Here he is with the vocalist Edie Brickell singing one of my favourite songs.

By the way, if you want to hear the original of Dueling Banjos search for Eric Weissberg on Amazon. At £4.61 including delivery the album is well worth buying - his banjo playing is something else.

Thank you, I knew about Steve Martin but going to look more into the EW suggestion. 👍🏼

    Good luck with the lessons.

If you're looking for contemporary repertoire have a listen to Old Man Ludecke, and - one of my favourite bands - Frontier Ruckus.

Good luck with the learning, play every day and it soon hurts your fingers and ears less.

Some nice clips posted already. Always fancied learning the banjo but the mandolin has jumped the queue. Still a long long way to go with it but have managed twice now to play and sing a few songs in my local's open mic night (very scary).

Never tried the banjo but good luck with it.

Learning any instrument is always really enjoyable.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

Thanks all, I’ll report back in a good few months with an update on progress.
