Good succinct review,I like it I would wear it.
it’s better without a bracelet, shiny sides don’t bother me at that price.
To compliment the "Cheap Quartz Diver?" thread (https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...p-quartz-diver) I thought I'd share a review of the one I picked up recently.
I've owned quite a few sub-£100 divers over the years (Apeks, Divex, Timex etc) and this isn't a relative assessment of those, it's simply a short review of the Casio MDV-106. This watch isn't particularly difficult to find, especially used, but condition and price vary widely in my experience. I managed to pick up a brand new model complete with all the packaging, box and stand for £64.95 delivered.
Firstly, dimensions:
- 42mm across sans crown, 45mm with crown
- 12mm thick
- 48mm lug to lug
- 22mm lugs
So a pretty standard set of dimensions for a diver. Not too big or too small.
The good:
- quartz movement is super-accurate. I wouldn't expect great accuracy even from a quartz at this level but it's not lost or gained a second in a week.
- 200m water resistance; unusual at this price point
- screw down crown; unusual at this price point
- High gloss dial gives a real depth to it
- hands; personal preference but I really like them, especially the seconds hand which is two-thirds red and has a nice arrow-head a quarter-way down. Again, touches I wouldn't expect at this price-point
- applied markers with white fill which is an excellent contrast against the dial
- 120 click bezel is firm with no vertical or horizontal play at all. Snaps firmly into place and is perfectly aligned
- chapter ring also perfectly aligned
- case back engraving
- weight is very good; neither too light or heavy
- price / value
The not so good:
- case sides are a little shiny for my liking
- lume is very poor
- doesn't have a bracelet option
So in summary it's a bloody great watch for the money! I've attached a few pics for your perusal although my photography skills aren't up to much I'm afraid.
Thanks for reading.

That's nice, very nice for the money. Like some of the similarly price Timex divers I'd happily wear that anywhere. Great holiday watch with a selection of nato straps!

Nice review . A cracking budget diver that's well worth the money IMO .
Looks nice on the rubber strap. I like it.
I have owned a few of these …
And they are also very versatile when it comes to straps , has your pictures show .
Great write-up OP - made me want one!
My ultimate "digging holes/chainsawing firewood" beater is a 10YO Casio "Waveceptor" that cost me £50 new.
Pleasing irony that it's also - for obvious reasons - the most accurate watch I own, and the one I use to reset all the other much more expensive watches I own!
Crazy hobby...
Thanks for the comments folks and wow, I’m indeed in good company!
There is also a bracelet version but the bracelet is flimsy... And (believe it or not) it runs on Miyota movement.
I owned a white version on bracelet and recalled "why in the hell did I pay for the xyz that much when this runs without flaw?!"
For upgraded version of same concept check Edifice EFM 100. Also owned one with orange bezel and watch is unbelievable in detailing.
Nice review of a great VFM money watch.
If only it had decent lume......
I noticed yesterday they are still for sale on Amazon for under £70

I've never owned one but I recommended one to a mate. So it then became my job to source it for him. I got it from a US ebay seller for <£50 and was very impressed with it for the money. My only issue is that I don't like rubber straps but that's a personal preference that would stop me wearing everything from this to an Aquanaut.
I had one, stunning accuracy, and great wrist presence. Lume never bothered me.
I really like mine, punches far above its weight/price point.
Only thing that's ever bugged me is the smallish size of the date window, my ageing eyes struggle to see it.
