    But we have bought some useless crap in the past so this year we are all scouring the charity shops for presents. This will cut the cost and put money to good cause. And if you don't like it you just take it back. A bit like Argos but with a charity element.

    I love the idea of an MX-5! under a grand for a lot of fun!

    Serious suggestions? Does she have a book that she loves from her childhood? Get an early edition of that.
    Buy some blank matryoshka dolls and paint them up like your family. No artistic skill needed. Just the effort and thought.
    A nice bit of art of somewhere significant.
    Write her a little poem, or draw her something. Again, you don't have to be artistic - you're better than you think you are.
    Commission some art from someone else if you're not confident.

    Failing all that, a foot spa.
