Fabulous effort, was amazing to see her coming 'home' escorted by 2 Red Arrows.
British spirit strikes again

I might have heard that this plane might come up for sale!
What a dream to have flown this - it's on my bucket list!
Do you know what Mark spitfire it is, and how it was modified? Does it still have a Merlin engine?
Removed all signs of weaponry (not to upset countries visited !) and replaced with extra fuel tanks, in wings and behind the cockpit
Indeed, the amazing R R Merlin, it even overshadowed the 2 'Arrows' escorting.
(makes your hair stand on end ....)
Thanks to IWC, this was 'doable'

fantastic effort, though why there wasnt more publicity I dont know.
it would be interesting to see how they managed the maintenance.
A warm thanks again to Mr Mitchell and Mr Royce for their interest in winning the Schneider trophy races and, as usua,l two fingers to the british government of the time for showing absolutely NO interest in either the races or the plane.

They were escorted by a PC12, in matt black, looked rather menacing.... Mechs/spares etc (and the Spit's 2nd pilot !)

Not sure how to eliminate/avoid the 'host.store.share' Photobucket banner that appears here ??

As beautiful as when she took off - 27,000 miles later
That's possibly the most beautiful man made object I've ever seen!
