    Would you?

Hi all, quick question would you buy tyres from Ebay? I'm not talking about 2nd hand Chinese ditchfinders but a proper branded new tyre!
The seller is Ebay tyre shop and they have very positive reviews..
I'm just concerned are fake tyres a thing? Or will these be really old stock etc.
Its not an expensive purchase but they do 4 tyres for a very reasonable price..
    Any thoughts?
    Cheers

There will be a four digit date code on the sidewall of the tyre. The first two are week and the last two are the year of manufacture (e.g. 1718; 17th week of 2018). This should answer your question about them being old stock.

Iíve bought a few sets over the years from E Bay, usually part worn winters but these were private sellers rather than shops.

Thereís plenty of on line suppliers now, mytyres, blackcircle, tyreshopper etc etc. I tend to buy new sets from one of these. Prices can vary quite a bit so I usually just type in the tyre size Iím after into Google search and then see what comes up.

For me I suppose it would depend on just how much cheaper they are from the place you are looking at. If it sounds too good to be true it probably is.

Lots of suppliers use EBay as a sales platform in parallel with mainstream stores.

If it is a current variant or even the last model - why worry?

    Ēyeah-but - they might be a year old already!Ē

Theyíll probably be 3-4 years old when you are ready to change.

Have you looked at other online sellers, who might not be on E-bay? Quite a few and some even offer fitting I believe.

I recently needed for tyres for my SUV, checked Black Circles found a good price and tried to get my local National tyres to match their price, strangely they couldn't get near it in the branch, but ordering via their website beat the price and the tyres were delivered and fitted at the local National Tyres branch.

Or you could spend a couple of quid more and support your local independent?

    This.

A few years ago I ordered online and asked the local guy to fit them. He asked where they were from and offered to price match anything in the future - which he pretty much has.

Donít forget to factor in the price for fitting and balancing and disposal of your old tyres (some places try to charge this if your supplying your own tyres).
Iíve always found camskill hard to beat for prices if buying online.

Tyre Leader used to be very competitive, they used to trade from Germany, I have noticed they have opened a UK site and there are more expensive now, but worth a look

Thanks for all the replies, to clarify a few points,
The tyres are not much cheaper than other online suppliers only about £7 per tyre but no postage charges..
This is the only place online that has x4 in stock at the moment.
I haven't tried my local place as I'm currently working out of the uk but they normally only want to supply what they have available etc .
I know I'll get charged for fitting etc so I'll be supporting the local place anyway and the wheels currently have no tyres fitted..
Many thanks just glad nobody popped up and said don't do it all Ebay tyres are fake!!!!

If you are a Costco member they had, no idea if itís still going, a very good offer on tyres. My son ordered 4 Michelin PS4 tyres for his Golf and they worked out at around £70 each, which is bloody cheap.
