Did I see footage of a guy lying on top of the perp? (London Crime LDN on Twitter). If so, what a hero!

Got the bus towards london bridge (Abbey Rd ) on the way home and there was some traffic but thought this was normal . Little busy as we went round to Tower Bridge , just listened to traffic report looks like bridge is closed !

Lots of police and now paramedics going into the adjoining Building. Concerns are that he entered and attacked multiple people.

Very very graphic scenes on Twitter. Too graphic to post here in the G&D. What you see is a bunch of people holding one one guy down (filmed from a dubbledecker bus), one by one they step back. One bystander walks backwards with a huge knife in his hand as if he's securing it from the offender. The police is near the scene. The people in the bus say: "He has a knife!". (Referring to the bystander at 10 yrds with the knife pointing down?) Then the police pulls off the last remaining guy then we hear a shot. Footage by Mr T Watt / @ monkeytripes on Twitter.

I would disagree - the video clearly shows the man being shot by Police.

Surely safer to lock the doors and keep everyone in,than evacuate everyone outside!.......IMO.

    That's why I didn't post a direct link.

Anyway, that's not important. More important is that the guy is caught and that he's now unable to cause more harm. For those near the scene: stay safe.

Not responding to you sir - my comment was in relation to somebody thinking there was nothing graphic in the video linked.

Looking at the video, one of the guys who moves away from the incident, then stops, is clearly holding a large knife! Taken from the assailant possibly?

So was it just one person with a knife attacking the public or more?

Well done to those who appear to have tackled the man before the police arrived.

Another one despatched. Well done to the Met / SF and to all that took the individual down, before the firearms teams took control.

My thoughts are with the famalies of all the poor victims at this very sad time.

I've been watching BBC News 24 for the last couple of hours. It appears to be a single perp who went about attacking members of the public with a knife, he was then apprehended by other members of the public, including having their knife removed from their possession, until armed officers arrived who then fired two shots resulting in the death of said perp. There's also mention of a false explosive vest being worn by the attacker and reports of more than just the two shots.

I've no idea how I'd react in such a situation, if I'd be a 'have-a-go' hero or not. I'd like to think I would intervene if I thought I were able however I tip my hat to those that actually did.

And I'm using the have-a-go hero phrase in the highest respect, not as some gung-ho I'm well 'ard type.

Edit to add that there was also a truck held at police gunpoint on London Bridge though it's unclear as to if the two incidents are related.

There's talk about a fake bomb vest. If so, the men wrestling the perp (and certainly the last one who held on to him like an Staffordshire terrier) are true heroes. Had it been a real vest, things would have ended very different for them. Still they pinned him down.

Statement from AC Neil Basu following incident in London Bridge...link...that need to be updated with the latest info...BBC link:

Two members of the public have died after an attack on London Bridge in which police also shot dead a man.

The Met Police has declared the attack a terrorist incident.

The suspect, who died at the scene, was believed to have been wearing a hoax explosive device, police said...

It’s very hard to say. I was walking past a shop a few years ago and a man ran out with a posh handbag. He jumped on his bike and I gave chase on foot for as long as I could keep him in sight. I went back to the shop and told them as much as I knew, and they said they were amazed at the speed at which I took chase.

But... the moment he jumped on his bike and started peddling I was close enough to kick his back wheel out from under him. I’d just become a father and in the moment decided that the shop could afford to lose a bag rather than me put myself in harms way. I think in those situations you weigh everything up and make a decision. Are your own family in harms way, are people who are unable to defend themselves in harms way, am I going to be the only one stepping up or am I joining a group who are helping.

When it actually happens many will run to help and many will run away. Those that run away aren’t cowards, but sorry, those that run towards are heros.

And now...Netherlands stabbing: Several hurt in attack in The Hague

Several people have been injured in a stabbing attack at a department store in a busy shopping street in The Hague, Dutch police say.

Police are searching for a man aged between 45 and 50, wearing a grey jogging tracksuit, who they believe may be behind the attack.

Images on social media showed emergency services at the scene amid crowds of Black Friday shoppers.

The condition of those injured and the motive for the attack remain unclear.

The incident happened at the Hudson's Bay store in the city's Grote Markt or main market square area, local reports say...

Indeed, the major shopping street in The Hague with all shops open for black friday. You won't find it more crowded than that. The knife this guy has used is found and secured. Hopefully traces on the knife will lead to him.

Respect for the bystanders who got actively involved to stop the terrorist from harming more people. Truly brave, it could have cost them dear, as they didn't know how many there were.

Yes, and I hope the 'wise after the event' crowd don't start down the road of were they justified in their actions. There's only one lot of 'human rights' here for me, those of the innocent victims.

Why do you assume the terrorist would be a follower of a religion that would attract that kind of comment? I haven't seen any reference to his identity much less his religion.

    BBC link

The man who carried out the stabbing attack at London Bridge was a former prisoner convicted of a terrorism offence.

The attacker, named by police as 28-year-old Usman Khan, was out of prison on licence at the time of the attack, in which two people were killed and three were injured...
