    Bristol Get Together January 2020

    January 25th on Saturday Evening

There's been some interest regarding getting another Bristol/South West watch meet going and the date agreed by the first parties is the 25th January.

Getting numbers at this early stage and then I'll look at which venue would be most appropriate.

This will be a cross platform invitation in order to include some people who may be newer to the hobby and younger (than an old fart like me), as there's a lot of keen watch people who are of the Instagram and Facebook generation. I'll vet them, to see that they post regularly on their particular platform before giving out the venue about 48 hours before as usual. I'm sure they will benefit from inclusion on this forum too as there's so much expertise and searchable information on TZUK so I'll encourage them to join here. How does that sound?

Please add your details in the comments below. Cheers, Jason

Although a relatively new member here, I’ve been lurking for a while, and as I’m down that way as well, I’d love to come 👍🏻

25th of Jan is no good for me, which is a shame as I was going to start organising a GTG, but you've got in there first. Hey ho.

i'm a possible too, on the Berks/Wilts border and any GTG is going to be a bit of a drive for me (Reading anyone) but any excuse to hit Bristol and pop into Rough Trade for a browse of the vinyl.

Shortly after starting this GTG thread I had the opportunity to join with another chap called Dan (he's 'appreciatingtime' on instagram) in setting up Redbar Bristol.

    It's now up and running.

Redbar Bristol is now up and running.

I've spoken with Eddie and he's no objection, thinks it's a good idea and wished me luck, so he's given me his blessing to use the January 25th date, as people here are already interested, to be the inaugural combined Redbar Bristol/TZUK watch meet.

This TZUK forum, having being around before Facebook and Instagram means that there are most likely a fair few members here who have neither a Facebook or Instagram profile.
The idea is that the (possibly) younger/newer fans of the hobby who are only on, for example, Instagram, would benefit from joining TZUK and gaining the benefit of the many experienced members on here so I will be encouraging that.

    The benefits of local TZUK'ers in joining Redbar Bristol will be that there will be;

    - regular meets
    - It's free
    - the 'Redbar' name attracts recognition from watch brands and AD's meaning that we can sometimes get guests such as brand owners involved, or have the odd meeting hosted at an Authorised Dealer.

Previous recent Redbar events in the UK have had Oris, Moritz Grossmann, Fears watches and Grand Seiko as guests/hosts as an example.

For those that don't know, 'Redbar' is really just a name to hang your hat on regarding watch meets. There's a thread here - https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.php?447302-RedBar

At the end of the day however, there's no real difference to meet-ups that we've been to before. It's just about having a chat, a beer and talking watches with some friends we already know and some new friends hopefully too.

    Hi.
No. I started this thread before the Redbar thing happened.
However, it's become apparent that the RedBar name is attracting watch fans from Instagram, Facebook, TZUK, plus Brand ambassadors/owners etc, and I was hoping that it could become a hub for GTG in the South West. As such, future meetings, days at an AD, Brand guest meetings etc would be communicated to any watch fans in the area who might be keen to attend future events via the occasional email. Up to you...any concerns, please send me a PM. Dave (Sweets) is getting involved too. He's got some great ideas and lots of contacts.

I'm looking forward to it, and yes Dave is a really good guy to help out, I have been to a couple of area GTG with him and he's super knowledgable, especially anything Lemania based..

I bought a Lemania based watch from him a few months after seeing it at a GTG. The Lorenz. That's the fun thing for me. Not only can you get to see and try on watches you'd never see anywhere else but you get to hear about the story behind them and hear the owner's enthusiasm.

A quick update for you all regards the 25th meet up.
Location is set and will be confirmed nearer the time but is within 15 mins drive from the M4/M5 Almondbury junction, with easy parking plus we have our own seperate room.

There's 49 people signed up for emails from Redbarbristol and although we've not been posting much over Christmas the Instagram page has a fair few followers.

Yes, absolutely. The location won't be publicised on Instagram, it will be e-mailed. I'm just aware that a couple of people on TZUK have expressed an interest in going but haven't signed up for emails, so I thought I'd put a little update on here.
Nearer the time we'll send emails and I'll DM the couple of people on here.

We're getting closer to 25th January

The e-mails for all who've signed up via the Redbar route and been verified will be sent on Wednesday with the exact location.
As mentioned before, we have a room to ourselves at a venue with good access.

It's looking to be a popular meet up, with over 60 people registered and verified as certifiable watch nuts, though of course not all of those will be able to make it on the night.

Can I just ask again if there's anyone on here who hasn't gone via the Redbar route and hasn't been getting e-mails and who wants to come to let me know so I can PM the details to you on Wednesday also. Thanks, Jason, Dave (sweets) Sweeting and the two Dans.
