God, that dial is exquisite, Vince!
Just back from a spa this is becoming my favourite DJ if not favourite watch currently! This 1978 Buckley has never been serviced or polished when I picked it up. Ive just had a full service, crown, tube & plexi. Comes on a nice tight oyster that’s original to the watch that’s been brushed up! Being the first of the 16030’s it has a quick set date function which makes life easier for the OCD in some of us. Blue is possibly the rarest of the Buckley’s!
I also picked up another 16030 White Buckley too with original papers which is nice from 1984. I contacted John Buckley as some whites have black hands but my new addition is with silver hands which was another option from the factory according to John. (Rolex used what was available) The White was also in need of some love with missing crown and stretched jubilee but a very original watch also! So only need a black/grey version and I’ll have a threesome!
Let’s see them unloved old Roman printed dials that where unpopular many years ago.
I had a white 16030 also from 1978 which I traded. Still regret that one. If I we to get another Datejust it would probably be another buckley.
That dial is stunning. I love the patina on the plots and the centre of the hands - great watch 👍
I don’t normally like the Buckley dials, but yours looks fantastic, nice
I have a white dial 1603 and it has black hands as you say.
It’s lovely to wear, so comfortable and because I have skinny wrists it’s 36mm doesn’t look out of place.
I’ll fish it out and get a photo. It’s overdue an outing.
My fav dial on the DJ, I have a 1601 DJ Buckley bought from the forum 3/4 yrs back

Ever since joining this forum I’ve wanted a Buckley dial, and might as well go for a 1986 - are there just a few model numbers to consider, or quite a few?

I’m in love with the white dial above! Absolutely stunning.
Yet again I need to admit my Rolex ignorance, as I’ve never heard of a ‘Buckley’ before. Off for a google now...

Foolishly I sold a white Buckley dial oyster quartz some years ago and regretted it ever since.
Another artsy pic :

I’m not entirely sure of why they appeal as much as they do, I just know that they do...
Open 6 always helps too!
Here is my one Vince

Beautiful Vince...if you fancy a Datejust exchange ...let me know!
Vince, I know that Google would most likely give me the answer, but by asking the question on the forum.
"Why is it called a Buckley Dial and who is John Buckley"
Other members, like myself who don't know, will be further educated
Many thanks
Tony
No problem Tony, John Buckley is a collector/dealer in NYC who made these printed unpopular roman dials become popular and hence called Buckley’s.
Cool watches in my view. Mine is a 1977
