Don't send a party invite, send a Daytona

Jay Z just invited guests to one of his parties by sending them each a rose gold Rolex Daytona.

Sent mine back, any old person can get a gold one... now if he'd sent a stainless one, I'd have considered it!

Hmm, the boy turns 5 in a few months. Might try this with his classmates at Nursery.

I don't know who Jayz is, but apparently he's just trying to get on the waiting list at his AD, buying all PM crap no one wants.

Not sure I understand the logic on this one, the event is in aid of his foundation which helps underprivileged chidren get an education. unless it's some kind of tax scam why not just give the money to the charity and send out some Casios.

Jay-Z can probably buy producer Michael ten times over.

Do they all have to go to another "party" in a year's time to get the warranty cards?

People can do what they like with their money but who is he trying to impress, exactly? Just think of the useful things he could have been doing (with his money or his time) instead.

Kind of links in with the wealth thread. If you have so much money you have to dream up stuff like that to spend it, then I have a pretty low opinion of you/him.

Whats the correct etiquette / protocol if i decide not to attend? Can I still keep the watch or would that be considered poor form? haha

Keep the watch and skip the party sounds like a plan 😉

But then, as Rolex is itself a charity, Jayz will be helping good causes twice

For me it does raise the question: who is he inviting that the fact they're being invited to a party at Jay-Z's isn't incentive enough? People who are super-rich and don't like Jay-Z?

Or maybe he just left it to the last minute and the only date he could get the caterer for was the same date as Pherrell's kid's bar mitzvah, so he's trying to bribe people to change their mind....

I’m only going if he promises not to play any of his ‘music’.

The ‘party’ was a fundraiser for Shawn Carter foundation which provides opportunities for black students after secondary education. The expensive invite was probably to shame the celebrity invitees into donating more. The fundraiser raised over $6 million which is several times more than what he probably spent in sending $40,000 watches to a handful.

For me it raised the question, what is the likelihood of this story actually being true? It was a question I was able to answer extremely quickly. :)

There was a story a few years ago where a football player bought all his teammates DayDates because they'd won something or other.
God I wish I'd paid less attention at school.

I think that I'm beginning to lose interest in watches.

Haha - I was just looking at other celebs who had bought multiple Rolexs for friends, and spotted that Mark Cavendish bought his teammates Hulks when he won the green jersey at the 2011 Tour de France!

Guess they were a bit cheaper then ...
