However the date looks a little odd the way it is displayed.

Will stick with the LM-7 and see how it goes ;)
Sorry not my taste, I think it looks hideous.
That is what I love about watches ... we all have different taste .Originally Posted by daveathall
My bloody problem though is that I like such a wide variety . If i did`nt, it would save me a fortune

really like it :P anyone know the size ?
would prefer a speedy style bracelet not a fan of mesh :blackeye: and i prefer the original style rubber.
as i am a lazy twat can someone tell me if the movements anygood
Looks interesting. Not quite sure about the date display, or the crown arrangement (one of the things I love most about the original Ploprof is the crown), but sapphire bezel sounds lovely :D

Got a new watch, divers watch it is, had to drown the bastard to get it!
Looks very interesting - it is so close to the original that it would be difficult to be too critical (unless you didn't like the original  )
Size will be important - the original, although big, is very wearable -- if this is any bigger that might not be the case.
I think that it will share the same specs Bob,but look forward to hearing more .Originally Posted by Stanford
I do believe, that as with other re-issues,the PloProf re-issue will introduce the Original to a whole new audience, and Vintage pieces that are already very expensive, will become even more so

Not sure on this one........
When you look long into an abyss, the abyss looks long into you.........
Seems to me there are a lot of differences:Originally Posted by Stanford
1. Dial with raised indices (an improvement)
2. Black dial :|
3. The bezel lock button looks like it belongs on a Christmas ornament
4. Crown arrangement has changed, not sure what's going on there.
5. The date, as mentioned. Not a fan.
6. Random bits of orange spoiling the landscape :(
The watch has been considerably 'prettified'. Some may prefer it this way, I regret the loss of the toolish nature of the original
To borrow a phrase: there can be only one
And then some!Originally Posted by S.L
I like it a lot. Love the blue dial on the old version. But you can't go wrong with a black dial either. Too big and too expensive for me but looks like a great watch. :bounce:
oooh! looks like you could mug a rhino with that!!
Are they as weighty as they look?
Seconded :| I cannot see anything in that watch I like. It looks plain ugly to me.Originally Posted by daveathall

Love it!
Not sure whther i prefer the priginal PloProf or this version but i'd take both if i had the cash!
Bezel and dial are very well laid out and legible - this is one watch i would be happy to wear underwater if i actually was to go diving, a serious tool watch - glad its being reintroduced!
I like it and the best thing is that it's going to be at least another year... which means I can start saving now :D
I'm ambivalent, but one thing you can be sure of, there'll be a queue, and a bloody long wait.
Me too. Mixed feeling on this one.Originally Posted by Chris_in_the_UK
At $7,700. US dollars and if one has a friendly AD who can give a 30% discount, that would bring the price down to $5,500. thats not to bad. That can be raised by selling a few watches.
I agree with Bill - that's not as expensive as I thought it was going to be...Originally Posted by Jonmurgie

There's something that doesn't look quite right - must say I prefer the original one
First Rolex with their re-released and 'changed for the worse' Milgause, now Omega with a re-released and 'changed for the worse' PloProf. Have manufacturers run out of ideas in watch design? If they're going to do a reissue then at least they should do it properly.
Best Regards - Peter
I'd hate to be with you when you're on your own.
I haven´t had a new watch in a while... better start saving! :D
I love it, absolute "modern" with the the black dial and orange button eg.
Thanks for the info!
All the best,
Gustav
Just not sure,i have never seen on handled the original and in truth have always had a sneakyfeeling that its not a watch for me in the long term but has always looked intresting.
Bloody expensive but thats to be expected and will maybe try the Ocean 7 if one comes along at a decent price to get a "feel" for the real thing..Do homages, copies and fakes do it for me? never its either the real deal or nothing in my book.
Martin
I FEEL LIKE I'M DIAGONALLY PARKED IN A PARALLEL UNIVERSE
I think they are interesting, but wouldn't ever consider getting one. I have handled an old one. Would I wear it? No. Consequently, I wouldn't get it (putting aside the price).
Others have other criteria for watches, e.g., that they a reasonably good investment, or of historical significance[1].
My medium term goal is to have tolerably good watches with movements from various places: Russia, Continental Europe, England, USA, Japan and China. (I now have the appropriate movements.)
Best wishes,
Bob
PS
1.Although this re-issue isn't itself of historical significance (yet).

I wouldn't have one myself (I just couldn't get away with that on my wrist) but I must say it looks pretty good to me. I'm happy to forgive Omega for making such a big and chunky watch as it's close to the original, unlike Rolex and the Deep Sea.
I also don't understand what's going on with the date. It seems specially designed to make it unclear whether the date would be the 6th or the 9th.
Overall not a bad effort. Plus of course it addresses the main failing of the original which only had a piffling 600m of water resistance
Its just plain old Fugly.
It looks like it would be very uncomfortable in the wrist as well. Its like VW re releasing a Mk1 Golf GTI good in its day and looked the part but not for now i dont think so. I think the only serious buyers who will part with there cash will be those buying for prosperity, potential investment (which there wont be as they'll make them until people stop buying them) and novelty.
Aesthetically and practically its just wrong, i have never been a fan of the original either but before people scream sacrilege i do understand its place in time, it should have been in the Omega museum range.
It's just all a bit wrong.
Don't like the black dial or that gross pusher.
Why couldn't they just just make a reissue without the need to tart it up? :?
Cheers,
Neil.
Agreed, the original is much nicer, IMO. Still, many will like it and they were never going to please us all, I guess. I may grow to like it but for now I'm kind of glad they messed with it a little as it will likely save me having to think about getting one. :DOriginally Posted by Neil.C

For that kind of money I would find myself a secondhand Dreadnought  and have plenty money left for another watch (maybe even a vintage Omega  )
Oops no need for a s/h DN... #25 is on my wrist :)

Hmm. Mixed feelings here too. I do not like the raised markers and the date at all.
I'm not as think as you drunk I am.
To quote Omega's original ads "It may not look pretty...." but at least the new bezel lock button makes it look less like a water pistol
If the date was at '6' I'd consider getting one :)
Hmm....no date = better , the pusher = needs to be changed , the price = as expected .
Let us see the size and the weight !
Regards
Laur
For all the "reduxes" we see, there are hundreds of other forgettable new designs that don't have the legs. Having said that, there are notable reissues fromOriginally Posted by Griswold
Longines (diver, hourangle)
Oris (Chronoris)
Doxa (something)
Breitling (SO)
Omega (Plop)
IWC (an entire range of them)
TAG (you name it)
Rolex (Milgauss)
Glashutte (60s)
Zenith (on their way)
Amongst others. It's nice that there's a choice of course. And there are some manufacturers whose designs have never changed - rarely do you hear about design stagnation at Omega, for example, whose changes to the Speedmaster amount to a fart in a can.
...but what do I know; I don't even like watches!

Precista have.
Someone on WUS commented that the bezel lock button looks like a lipstick case. I knew it wasn't right, but couldn't express it so well (for hopefully obvious reasons).
Interesting comments everyone, especially the ones about "tool divers". IMO, Omega have largely taken the tool out of this watch, e.g. polished case bevels, more writing on the dial, random bits of orange.
The sapphire bezel insert, possible HEV, and improved milanese bracelet are all good signs however.
I like it, but prefer the original. Looks like I'll be seeking an Ocean7 LM-7 too.
I've never handled an original, but have fancied one as it looks cool [IMO] and, how to put it, "is of it's time"? In the same way that an old Rolex, with painted lume instead of gold indicies, looks nicer.
For that reason, this re-issue holds no appeal to me even if it looked the same - the original PloProf is of interest, not a modern one.
The date window just adds to the lack of appeal.
I think I'll forget the homage to this one now, could be a tad risky.

Whole chunks of my life come under the heading "it seemed like a good idea at the time".
How about the SM 1000 Grand then? Nobody seems to have any concrete plans to reissue it or make a homage :)Originally Posted by swanbourne
