Will the builder know you are installing a wall-safe?
That would put me off, for a kick-off.
We are having some building work done, and I thought I'd install a wall safe while they are at it. Does anyone have any advice or recommendations about makes, models, things to watch out for etc.? Assume I know nothing (a fair assumption on any topic). TIA.

That's a very good point which had not occurred to me - yes they would be fitting it as my DIY skills are nonexistent. But it leads on to the thought that how does anyone get a safe installed without other people knowing about it?
Must be specialist safe installer's about, same as CCTV/Alarm installers. Would rather use them than a generic builder. The former's reputation for keeping secrets of safe locations is critical to their business success.
If I was concerned enough about my valuables to go to the trouble and expense of installing a safe, I would go to a specialist safe company.

Just buy an old office safe. They weigh a ton and no one is going to get into them or take them away.
It took 3 of us nearly an hour just to move it about 12 ft.
Got to agree!
A friend of Mine got hold of one from an old London company and I helped him get it in the house!!
It took six of us using a tele-handler to get it in the door then alot of manpower and time using roller bars to get it into the downstairs cupboard.
Nobody is either getting in to it or taking it in a hurry!!
Offline for a few days, thanks for all the advice.
If you're using an old safe will it have a cash rating? As I understand it, most insurers want a cash rated safe if you have valuables (Watches, jewellery) worth over a certain figure.
