Men's Chronograph up to 2k - recomendations please

I have a colleague at work who is looking to purchase a new Chronograph fitted with a bracelet and his budget is around the 2k mark, he has looked at a couple of Tags which he quite likes but I though for that kind of budget he could do better.

I came up with this: https://www.jurawatches.co.uk/collec...-427-11-051-00 which is well below his budget, he is not too fussed between an Auto or a quartz and he quite fancies a display back or perhaps a skeleton.can you suggest any alternatives please?

    Thanks
    Eddie

Has he considered vintage ? alot of 70s chronos in this price range serviced and in good nick . Is it a everyday watch ?

You can probably get a discount from the right buyer , its worth asking

I mean, that's quite a spread of requirements!

I've been pushing my Damasko DC66, but for that kind of money, for a watch to keep? I'd stick to the German brands - Damasko and Sinn.

In that price range, I'm a big fan of Oris, and you could probably get a chronograph within your budget.

Probably a Junghans Max Bill? I'm a big fan of the looks. Link below is from selfridges but you can easily find one well cheaper elsewhere.

That's a great looking watch, he wants it as an oem solution with braclet as standard and I can't fine a Damasko that fits that bill.

edit, beaten to it. I would agree with Damasko - https://forum.tz-uk.com/showthread.p...19#post5248619

Great looking watches from a small manufacturer.

As others have said, I would start with Sinn and Damasko. There should be something in their catalogues to please most people at this budget. The idea of a skeleton dial is just adding unnecessary additional grief in reading the chrono imho.

Would he consider a very lightly used pre-owned modern watch ? I'm wondering if a Speedmaster Professional might be in range. This is one of the greatest and best known chronographs of all time, and would be pretty much depreciation-proof if bought well.

    And while I'm on a roll - 1933.11 at today's exchange rate.

  16. #16
Sinn or Damasko as stated above
Maybe the Stowa chrono if you want dressier?
OR visit west coast time- I think they have some nice Ollech and Wajs mirages reduced At somewhere around $700- well worth a look for a cheaper Sinn alternative

    Siduna M3440 or Paolo Fanton's A-13A.
More soul than any Damasko and all cheaper Sinns, equal capability and both great value. I have both and they both deliver way over their cost. Neither has a display back though, so have a look at Guinand as well. They do have display backs

Obviously 2nd hand & also at the top end of your budget but a cracking watch.

Agreed, I did mention the idea of a skeleton was pretty pointless on a chrono.

Good watches, but just so the OP is aware, they dont come on the bracelet, its an additional 600 quid.

Grey dealer new prices seem to be around 2800. Id at least suggest it to him, but hed have to be happy with a manual winder.

Thanks, I just tried to configure it and got a price of 2890 euros, too much unfortunately.

    Longines Big Eye Avigation ?

Not my favourite reference but I do like Longines, although I guess to the average person in the street they would be viewed as sitting below Tag Heuer. Probably bang on the budget.

Sad news! The 56 on bracelet is EU2600, so 2225. Bit better?

Does he really need a chrono? Many more possibilities for time only in his budget.

And is quite distinctive in side profile. Struggling for how else to describe it. Fugly.

The Damasko options are compelling but it would be this for me. Looks fantastic on leather too at very little additional cost.

Yes, this is a classic and the Plexi version is the pick of the bunch.

Tons of choices in this range but the Damasko 66 and Sinn103 are fantastic recommendations.

Or, he could pick up two of Eddie's finest chronos (one of each colour) and still have money left over

If he could stretch his budget by a mere 130 he could have a Damasko DC56 from Chronomaster. Give him a lesson in man maths. ;-)

Could be worth reconsidering some second hand options, Ive bought Rolex, Tudor and Certina pieces secondhand and each was indistinguishable from new. So many more options open up with secondhand.

If it really must be new the Sinn and Hamilton options suggested already look great.

    Cheers

Tag Heuer "1964" re- issue perhaps.

I have an absolute beauty for 1800,and I have it on a mesh bracelet too.

I think this thread needs more photos of different contenders.

    New at 1850

    And new at 793

Hugely under budget but these Baltic Bicompax are quite appealing, with various dial variations:

That's the one I went for so, obviously, it is an excellent choice. However, it doesn't have a display back. For that you have to go for the 103 St Sa which is over budget. Not to mention being even thicker and with larger screw down pushers.

If this is to be a one off purchase, a "keeper" if you will, and not to be flipped as many here would, then perhaps the old adage "buy right, buy once" is apt. I therefore suggest the budget is upped to 3000, and damn the torpedoes (that's assuming there's a wife looking over his shoulder). ;-)
