    Car locksmith recommendations

My Honda Jazz is in amazing condition for its age - it has only one fault in that the drivers door lock doesn't work. It was a bit tempremental at first but has got worse over the past few weeks and now the key wont turn at all.

This is not that big a deal as all the other locks are OK and operate the central locking but as everything else is good I would like to get this repaired.

Before heading off to a main dealer I thought that I would try an auto locksmith.

Having never used one of these before, what is the collective wisdom on using one of these as opposed to a main dealer?

Also, does anyone know of a good one in the London/Surrey//North Sussex/Berkshire areas?

A Google search came up with a number but the first two I couldn't get through to and haven't responded to my messages, the third that I spoke to this morning said that he wouldn't be prepared to take this job on (his website said that they could deal with all makes, all locks!)

    Any ideas / comments?

Sounds obvious, but have you squirted wd40 in the lock? Sounds like a lube issue, maybe take the door panel off and lube the mechanism.
    Cheers..

Have you tried a bit of silicon grease in the mechanism?

Worked on our front door dead lock

re: WD40, squirt plenty to wash out any debris and then follow with a spay with better lubrication.

Wd40 and if that eases the lock I’d use some dry graphite powder as lube.

Edit: I suspect that a main dealer will only be interested in selling you a new lock and key meaning you have two keys to manage

I would second lube unless the key is very worn which you will be able to tell by looking at it

As I understand it, new locks can be set up to be compatible with existing keys
Correct, can you replace the lock yourself or do you need someone else to do the grubby bit?
There is a company called Bolton Lock Company, that I used when working in a main dealer.tel:01942811186

    Thanks

Not sure I want to attempt this myself - and Boltons quite a distance away.

Anyone know of somewhere in the SE?

I managed to contact a couple of locksmith who said that they would replace the lock. However they both quoted prices that were significantly more than a Honda main dealer.

So its booked in with a Honda main dealer for next week.

An interesting experience sorting this out especially the calls to locksmiths

Thanks once again for all of the replies.
