Good shout Dave, I hope everyone has bought a poppy.
    I've bought my usual 3.
    We will remember them.

Today I will attend the remembrance service at my village church. The walls within the church have the inscribed names of all who made the ultimate sacrifice and it is sobering to see how many of them there are from just this tiny village.

I will be at a service taking place at our local memorial, and then afterwards the Church service.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning.

    We will remember them.

We have the names of the fallen ones on big poppy's fixed around the village. We're all going to church and will be watching the scouts, brownies etc do there march. Think it's great to get the kids acknowledge this day.

Absolutely. My three oldest all take part in the parade. They are the first generation that will likely have no direct link to WW2. It's vital that they are told and taught about the conflict.

    Same here.

Population of 200 at the time; 25 men lost and many pairs and triplets of surnames within that list.

    Never forget.

Yes Dave it's very important that that youth of today are educated about what our for fathers did to make this country great.

I attended the Cenotaph today. My youngest daughter ( 22 ) also marched with the old and bold, as she has done for the 7th time. Abit more special this for us as she had the honour to wear, with pride her late grandad's medals.

Walked into town this morning and stood in silence in a private place at the appointed hour. When the many uniformed services later marched down from the Cathedral after the service I have to say I had a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat.

Good turnout in our village today.

Can 'hear' the pipes on your photo, something that always makes me feel good. Grandfather Hugh was a piper, so was his brother John. Always think of them, and my father, at this time of year.

Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

    Well said.

Was anyone else (who bothers to watch) baffled that the team on The Apprentice the other week weren’t even sure what the dates of the Second World War were! Is this an indicator of wider lack of understanding amount millennials?

My kids already know more about what their Great Great Grandfather experienced and they’re still in infant school!

When I was a young boy, Armistice Day was a really big celebration. Poppies were everywhere and our WWI veterans marched in the parades, as well as the newly-minted WWII vets. Everyone attended.

    Today, not so much...

In 1954 the day was renamed Veterans Day in the U.S., which is fine, but I don't see the pomp and circumstance anymore that was accorded 60 years ago, or even 30. Too bad.
