The bezel is a step too far for me.

Yes, but I've seen far worse! And I've seen worse Rolex ones, let alone from the likes of Invicta....

My wife has a similar Rolex, YG 31mm, with a diamond encrusted dial and it looks extremely good. The gold fluted bezel looks just tight.

However, no man should ever wear a YG Rolex, way OTT and the diamonds just sends out the "I am a flash git" message.

That watch would look better on a woman.

Each to their own; wear what you like and all that.
Personally, and no offence intended etc, I reckon it's a bit Jimmy Saville-esque.

A little over the top to say the least. I'm assuming the bezel is aftermarket and not a Rolex made part.

    Paging Haywood 😉

Mick, I thought that previously you were a fan of the Day Date?
Or did I just dream that?

As to the actual watch on show, personally not a fan of diamonds, but certainly not in that configuration on the bezel.

A watch like that needs accessorising properly: chest wig, medallion, fake tan, Old Spice, restraining-order, etc...

Gauche, proof that money doesn't buy taste. A small version as a ladies dress watch would probably be fine though.

Just a teensy-weensy bit. Take off the 22 diamonds then it's only a teensy-weensy-weensy bit vulgar.

I like DayDates but the YG version is a bit tacky for my tastes. You see loads of them on the Costas because they are mainly worn by retirees. The 36mm models look a bit better than the larger models.

However diamonds on a gents watch is just a no-no for me.

Not keen on the diamond bezel, but the rest? - I'd wear it.

    I like gold DD's

While I find the look too "fussy," it is a correct variant of bezel.

Google "Rolex 18308" and click on "images."

Now that, without the rather horrid diamonds in the OP, looks extremely classy. Just loud enough to be impressive, without being vulgar and blingy. IMHO.

Missed a trick there - take the date wheel out and you could put another diamond under the cyclops...

Agrred with most on here that the diamonds are not the classiest look. I do like the white face one below though.

You could prise the diamonds off and use them for bribes if you're ever stranded behind enemy lines.

Yes and you are right to disagree with it in this case. It is the YG bracelet that is the killer, rather than the watch itself.

Your DayDate with batons and a leather strap shows that you have got it just right.

Am I really the only one who'd wear that?

It's not the nasty looking Pave dial or the full diamond bezel, I reckon I'd give that a whirl.

Sunday best, mind. Not for the spit 'n sawdust establishments I find myself in through the week.

So close to being wearable...I would wear it if it had 24 fewer diamonds and was white gold.

Incidentally, a friend asked me to post a query re: after market diamonds. He has a Cartier Tank Solo XL and wants to get a diamond bezel. Anyone know of a reputable jeweller who can carry out this work, and some idea of the cost involved?

Not a 'teensy-weensy bit vulgar', it's full on hideous vulgar.

Certainly not for me. Even if I did like it, I’m not sure where would be appropriate for it.

Warn him that Cartier will never service it or supply parts for it thereafter

I would say that after-setting this watch is commercially foolish, greasing the runners on which a Cartier already depreciates at break-neck pace. Not so much polishing a poop as smothering it in more of the same.

Not keen on diamonds on mens watches, but the rest of it I'd wear.
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

  33. #33
I rather like gold Rolexes, taste be damned, but I don't think men's watches should have gems on them. Something really well executed, such as the RBOW Daytona, gets a pass but - to me - that Day-Date would look a million times better with a regular champagne dial and fluted bezel.

Thanks H, I didn't know the model number, but yes plenty of images and some of them actually look quite good. Bark effect gold 👍

Just think how attractive that would look, pictured in an Argos tracing paper weight catalogue page. Quite fitting.

I would imagine that following all of the "I think it is horrible" comments, there is one simple lesson to be learnt. It will be dead easy to buy this sort of thing and difficult to sell it, so unless you are a really long term keeper, avoid this like the plague.

I gave it the Sub test, and bear in mind that I am a very unlikely Rolex wearer. Would I prefer a sub or this? Definitely a Sub.

    I don't believe its the OP's

The link below is from Watchprosite, were the watch was posted presumably by its owner who lives in Australia.

Just a bit too much diamond on that for me, lovely watch without though.
