Thread: Zenith El Primero or Omega CK2998?

Zenith El Primero or Omega CK2998?

I’m having my head turned by those white 3 dials chrono’s especially the Zenith El Primero 38mm chronomaster and the Omega CK2998.

Does anyone have one and if so how do you find them, and what would be your choice out of the two just out of interest???

    Omega CK2998

    Zenith

Can you be more specific with the El Primero? That's the movement rather than the watch itself, though it has lent its name to some models also.

Lots of very very tasty variants.

I don’t own either. But the El Primero would be my preference.

You looking at any particular model?

For me the omega is the nicer looking watch but I am not a fan n of manual wind watches so it would be the 38mm zenith.

Of those I'd personally go with the Zenith. The Speedmaster is nice but I'd prefer a Professional or FOIS.

Don't see many of the CK2998 about now but I remember seeing one on a bracelet and it was really nice.
    Both great pieces.

Zenith El Primero or Omega CK2998?

    Omega.
I just don’t like the overlapping subdials on the Zenith.

Zenith for me, never been that fond of that particular Speedmaster model.

The Zenith movement is in my opinion superior having a column wheel and higher beat rate. It's also an automatic rather than the manual wind of the Speedmaster.

The Omega has more recognisable history and brand awareness.

I prefer the look of the Zenith, but that's not to say it's the CK2998 isn't one of the better looking versions of a good looking series of watches. In the end it should come down to which you prefer.

I agree with the above - Zenith for me but all down to personal preference- either are great picks.

With the Zenith, I can't get past the date window cutting in to the minute track; ugly and unnecessary on an otherwise beautiful watch.

So it's the Omega for me, purely for that reason.

If I was choosing, I would take the EL Primero in SC just now, it's just so much nicer (to my eyes) than the Omega.

Zenith every time, I don`t like most of the Speedmaster variants (apart from the Moonwatch). The 38mm El Primero models are a good size too for many of us.

As ever, the only person who's opinion counts is your own, and the best way to decide is to try them on. I think Zenith as brand have lost their way a bit, but the 38mm chronographs are nice and there's no denying the classic appeal of the El Primero movement. I still marvel at how slim it is, but that was all part of the design remit in the late 60s.

I've had an Omega CK2998 in the past and I currently own a 38mm Zenith El Primero.

The Zenith is a better size for me and the pushers feel much smoother, probably because of the column wheel movement.

I liked the CK2998 but I love the Zenith El Primero. Simply a better size and a better movement.

Whilst I think the Zenith has a better movement the overlapping dials spoil the look for me.

I would, therefore, go for the Omega but, as others have said, it would be the Moonwatch.

The Omega for me for sure! Love the red version too

Zenith have released the El Primero original in a 38mm 1969 case that does not have the overlapping dials.
The Zenith website has a couple of references namely

    03.2150.400/69.M2150 and 03.2150.400/69.C713
Either of these Zenith references win my vote

Always the way. I've had three Speedmasters and sold three Speedmasters. The zenith is probably the better proportioned watch but I'm not sure on the dial. Have to have one at some point.
