For unflavoured gin I prefer Silentpool but my go to is Warner’s Rhubarb gin. Lovely.

As mentioned, it's a bit subjective depending on the persons taste.
Couple of others I don't think have been mentioned:
    Silverback Gin made in Alton
    Twisted Nose made in Winchester
    Mermaid made on the IOW
    Salcombe Start Point made in,well,Salcombe.

All delicious but for different reasons.

(And personally I wouldnt ruin any of them by sticking Schweppes in them)

I'm fond of simple old Bombay Sapphire. As others have mentioned, a good tonic is key. Fever tree is very good but expensive, typically about £4 for eight in Tesco's and the like. The Schweppes in Tesco is just as nice and about £4 for twelve. Spar cheapo tonic water is surprisingly good too. Last night I tried Tesco's own slimline tonic with the Bombay, not very good. I dont know if it was because its slimline as I've never tried slimline before, still, I'll struggle way through it ;-)

Tanqueray 10 and Plymouth both good choices as mentioned.

I really like Martin Millers and can often be had quite cheap. Six dogs blue gin is also decent, as is Brockmans if I recall, it's been a while.

Tanqueray No 10 is my recommendation, normally pick it up cheap on Ocado or Amazon.

    Gin recommendations

Agree tanqueray 10 is always excellent. A few others I’ve enjoyed recently that are worth mentioning:
    Melbourne gin company
St george terroir from California and amazing with anything woody / herby (e.g. rosemary)
    Cotswold gin company

A couple of old world English Gins are my favourites.

The classic Plymouth Gin, and Hammer and Son Old English Gin. The latter being an Old Tom style gin in that it has a sweetness added post distillation.

I have been through the stage of trying lots of gins.
I now use the Aldi and a good tonic.
It's all about what you add to them.
Spent a lot of money finding a good Rhubarb gin and realised a drop of Rhubarb liqueur or EG will do the same job.
Add aromatics or liqueurs and you can save a lot of fancying about and quite a bit of money too.
So,for a gift, why not give a gin aromatic kit
    ...and a tonic selection ?

flavoured gins are easy enough to make yourself just using a cheap gin base , as for the 'aromatic gin kits ' that give you juniper berries and spices to soak in a vodka base then filter dont bother - the aromatics need to be re-distilled to make anything decent.
