Help! Advice re water damaged vintage sentimental Seiko

This is my dad's daily wearer from the 80s and has sat in my drawer for a good number of years. It looks like it has had some water damage at some point and would love any advice (recommendations) on who could restore it and approximate costs.

    It is reference 7548-7000

    Any help gratefully appreciated!

It is a nice looking watch and it would be a shame not to get it back into service.

The day wheel looks slightly discoloured, but I can't see from the photos whether there is also water damage on the dial/hands.

Does it currently run at all?

Hopefully an expert will be along soon, but if you can't find someone to repair the current movement then IIRC the Seiko 7546 is a drop-in replacement for the 7548, and it should be easier/cheaper to source. If the replacement 7546 movement has the crown at 3pm (rather than at 4pm as on your 7548) then the day/date wheels will also need swapping over.

As Willie said really, a cheap 7546 off eBay is your best bet as a donor, they are still relatively cheap but not as much as they once were as the movement is sought after for exactly your dilemma.

Something like this. ( but asa said above, you would need to keep the original diver day date wheels)

    Thanks for suggestions so far.

Yep, it's a none runner unfortunately. The handset has some minor discolouration.

It may be the board only that needs replacement. Im not sure if you can seperate the board from the movement and just get it cleaned, serviced and replace the circuit board.

    Another vote for Guy/Bodo.

    [QUOTE=willie_gunn;5233045]...IRC the Seiko 7546 is a drop-in replacement for the 7548,../QUOTE]

Almost- different hand sizes on the 7548 so the centre wheel and cannon pinion are different.

Not heard that before, I’ve a couple of 7548s that have been ‘saved’ by 7546 drop ins.
    Cheers..

From what I’ve read the only difference seems to be that the 7548 benefits from one more jewel and a battery retaining strap. Other than that they appear identical, including the hand sizes.

Are you perhaps thinking of the 7C46 rather than the 7546?

...Hmmm, yeah, maybe I got that wrong. Seiko have always used smaller hand sizes on the quartz models but 7548 are standard auto sizes and I thought 7546 were std quartz size. More evidence if needed that Guy is the man for this. He's become a bit of a guru on these movements and he's pretty good at the cosmetic work too.

Wow, would be lovely to have it returned to that standard ^.

In comms with Guy and he will have it next week. It really is long overdue having it looked at!

I’m a sucker for these, just love the SQ dials. I have a Pepsi which is original and a black dial model which has been relumed. Bulletproof watches.
