    Iíve been into Watchfinder today

What a pleasant experience, I had a 116610LN Sub to sell. I sent them the basic information last week and got the valuation back the same day. Walked into WF Leeds this morning and came out 15 mins later with the top end of the valuation they sent me.
I expected all sorts of haggling and them doing a ďwe buy any carĒ type chipping of the price but no. I would certainly use again.

  2. #2
My experience too with all Rolex sales to them. They also quote super fast for Rolex watches. They tend to 'haggle' with the perceived lesser watches....i.e anything not Rolex

I donít blame you for selling to WF.
Iíve thought about selling some of my Rolex sports models here but with the amount of grief some people cause it would be easier and less hassle to move them on to WF.

Iím afraid Iím not brave enough to launch onto sales thread with a Rolex. I had a price in mind and WF came back on the nose. I really like the sales section on here and have bought and sold plenty of times but the R word seems to bring out the worst in some people.

Same here. Sold my SubC to WF in June. Wouldn’t have bothered on here because of the crap those threads descend into. Yet happily advertised (and sold) a Tudor yesterday.

Iím not privileged enough to use the for sale section here - but frankly Iíd be scared to death putting something up there, having witnessed some of the abuse on some peopleís threads. In fact Iíd side with you and ask watchfinder first.

I have often thought about this. I think the issues on here happen whenever watches are advertised over RRP.

Unfortunately the market value of certain Rolex is above RRP and selling on here above that is not usually the done thing. Whereas WF will happily offer above RRP and not flame you.

If I came to a point of wanting to sell some desirable pieces I would thing long and hard about advertising on here. I cannot remember the last time I saw a BLNR, BLRO or Sub on the Sales Corner here.

I'm glad it went so smoothly for you. I'd feel much safer taking in person than posting, which is why I'm assuming WF not as feasible an option for those living outside of London?

Had a similar experience with them when I sold them a Lady Datejust TT for the better half. Was an easy sale and sent it same day courier for about £100 which was well worth it considering the price they offered.

If I had a sports model Rolex Iíd probably use them to. However they offered a pathetic amount for my -69 Speedmaster . I can imagine situations where during a probate , unwitting relatives being completely ripped off. Alternatively an Old Boy one time owner falls for the rip off offer.
Randomly 2 months after the pathetic offer they were all over me offering 4 xís more.
Not overly impressed I have to say.

Unfortunately this seems to be becoming a common view on here, which is a shame for those who would want to buy Rolex, and the fundraiser which might benefit from the sales.

It is a shame that so many forum members are using WF as their first port of call for sales (this is not just aimed at the OP, it seems many are using their services), it really speaks of degradation of trust in the forum, it probably means less money to the vendor, it certainly needs more money from any buyer of the same watch if they have to buy from WF, and it means less money fro the fundraiser.
Any one of these is a shame in a community like this, all of them at once seems a real loss.

I hope that those who snipe at sales posts, and therefore contribute to the absence of marketable sales on SC, may think again about their position.
I know that there are other factors (postage of a sports Rolex is an issue in itself), but a distinctly tart environment on SC seems to be puttng off what would be very welcome sales posts.

Personally my next major (for me) watch purchase will begin with a WTB in the appropriate forum itís unlikely to be a Rolex but if an explorer2 or GMT Master come within reasonable reach of my budget and I posted a wtb for one then I would hope a prospective seller would contact me before watch finder.
I can totally understand the reluctance of some to post certain pieces as being for sale after some of the small minded pedantry displayed from certain quarters.

I think nearly every Secondary dealer is better than Watch Club when it comes too offers. They have a continuous supply of in demand watches but with the level of estimate, not sure who would want to accept but appears their clientele are quite happy to deal with them.

Donít just rely on WF for prices.... Mark Worthington beat them by some margin when I moved on a few Rolex watches recently..

Very professional service, and fast payment, made for a far easier time than selling on here.

Well I bought my DSSD from Sales Corner and couldnít have been happier.

In contrast, my only experience of Watchfinder to date was a completely derisory offer from them on a Panerai - almost £2000 less than I eventually sold it for!

    Just saying...

Pre-Richemont, WF would usually have a grand either way on a part-ex, now they seem to work on £3k either way margin.

    They've gotten very greedy.

I didnít start the thread with the intention of promoting negative comment on Rolex sales on here. It was really just to reflect my pain free experience with WF. Whether it would have been less positive with another watch brand I donít know.

Certainly though the way a number of seemingly innocuous Rolex SC threads have spiralled into acidic exchanges did put me off chancing it on there. Iím on a number of forums for various communities, cars, motorcycles, cycling, shooting, fishing and generally comments on sales threads are quite restricted, in fact on some no comments are permitted. I donít think this a totally healthy situation as very often subsequent comments can be quite helpful to potential buyers but I think there has to be a limit of tolerance. Then again the forums rules and conditions are unambiguous and you either use the facility knowing that or move on.

Iím quite happy to use the forum as a reference and educational tool and to pick up the occasional bargain but it is a brutal place now and again if the vultures are circling.

If I was selling my Rolex SC would be the first place I would try, It would go up at market value with a good explanation and images, if any one tried to thread crap it then I would hope the rest of the forum would see who the knob head is and rightly flame the muppet.

I think it's an over reaction and a lot of people are jumping on the bandwagon fearing the worst, a quality Rolex at market value should always sell and unless you are pushing the profit margins no one should say anything.

I often use WF to get a guide on pricing compared to what I perceive I might be able to sell here for.

Earlier this year I sold my Hulk here (in seconds) for the price WF offered me. I did an easy face to face (quicker than WF process).

In contrast last year I sold 7 in demand Rolex (pretty much my entire collection) to WF for a combined amount that was more than I would have got here (some were over and some were less, but overall was higher) in one easy transaction rather than 7 sets of haggling, packing, posting and insuring. So very happy with them.

I've never sold anything other than Rolex to WF as I've got better prices on Forums.

In response to OP question I buy across the spectrum. Mostly Forums, but also nee and pre-owned from ADs (Laing, Pragnell, WOS), new from grey's (Heritage, Iconic, Chronext), pre-owned specialists (WF, Swiss Watch Co) and Boutiques (Panerai, Rolex). When I lived in tax advantageous countries I used to buy quite a bit from Ashford in the US and some SE Asian grey's, but now I'm back in then UK the tax burden writes of any non-European purchases - and once tax taken into account the UK is probably the cheapest overall place for expensive watches.

    ^^^^^ this

The whole notion of profiteering is daft, market value is key, I note that I havenít seen a house for sale at the price the seller bought it at in 1995

Given like it or not that the Rolex sports market has made sourcing a fairly priced watch at a decent price near impossible it is a real shame that members feel they canít offer them here because they will for some models will be asking over rrp. So what!!!!

The advertised price will be fair to the market conditions at that point in time or itís not, if itís not, it wonít sell, donít understand the flaming that does happen. All this has done has narrowed the opportunity for members in having an opportunity to own a watch that otherwise might be hard to find.

Surely buying a watch here from a trusted member at the trade purchase price is better than going to WF or anywhere else and paying the markup on top?

Iíd love to get a new Pepsi GMT but I ainít paying £15k from WF, Iím sure they offer around £11/£11.5, if someone stuck one the SC for that, Iíd be having a chat with them

Is the advertised price on the SC what you are willing to pay, yes or no, if no, move on, but letís see some nice kit back on the SC and let the buyers decide if the selling price is fair, not the keyboard warriors who had no intention of buying in the first place

I forgot to add that Sales Corner here has been the most regular place for me to both buy and sell, and you meet some super people doing so. Most transactions couldn't be smoother or more trusting.

I recently received a quote from WF with the intention of gauging value and then listing on SC for a little under the WF offer.

WF offered £20+K for my SS ceramic Daytona.
I felt I could not list for anywhere close to this value on SC without having the thread crapped on.

Wow. That sounds great. Simple transaction and as you say, no chance of being accused of profiteering.

Why not? I canít see anything wrong in this current market for a seller to say here is proof of what WF have offered me, I want £XXXXX as I think it would be nice to keep it within forum, any agro and itís off the WF...

May work in principle but hardly ever works in practice for me. Had my SC Submariner thread crapped on last year.

Looking at the numbers available in the Secondary market currently, not that many by the look of non shifting secondary dealers stock.

It seemed like a reasonable sales thread to me at the time. Didn't deserve the first comment let alone the rest. I would have thought people would want watches like that on SC.

WF or any 3rd party has no business on SC.

Seller can ask what they want - if a buyer wants the watch they will negotiate a mutually agreeable price (via PMs). Seller has no need to justify the price or other people to cr*p all over their posts with their opinions of fair market values etc.

What you say is correct, but only if the watch is listed on SC in the first place, if everything ends up going to WF then there is no Rolex on SC, that may be the future of this forum which in my mind is quite sad, surely there is a middle ground that makes buyers and sellers happy.

Simple solution is to stop random comments from people who have no interest in buying. Just leave the original post up there as a sales post. All subsequent business is done through PM.

There is no perfect solution, and I personally prefer that TZ-UK allows posting on Sales Posts. It can add context to the post, about both the watch and the seller.

We live in a relatively free society where you should be mature enough to both empower and trust people to do the right thing. Let's not turn this into a nanny state IMO :)

I sold my Rolex 114300 OP to the Manchester branch yesterday and couldn't be happier with the service and price received, the top end of the online quote, £400 more than David Worthington offered and £700 more than Watchfinder quoted a year ago, no drama, all done in 15 minutes and payment done online.

£700 more than quoted a year ago. Are 114300s increasing in price?
