    Argos Book of Dreams website

Argos have put all their catologues online a http://argosbookofdreams.co.uk/

I can still remember every page of the toy sections in them. My kids can’t believe it when I told them it was like looking at Amazon is now.

The Freemans or Grattan catalogue was my “book of dreams” back in the day.

Wish there was “Index: The Catalogue Shop” version...think I bought more of my watches from there when I was a kid.

I really enjoyed that for about 15 mins, but started to feel melancholy about the things I used to ask my mother to buy for me when I was a kid because I didn't realise how poor we were growing up.

I wanted for nothing and looking back I feel a bit guilty.

I'll give her a big hug tomorrow.

Sorry to dampen the mood - Great find!

Amazing to look back at when 'Cellular Phones' came to Argos, total up the cost of the phone, a scientific claculator, a dictaphone, databank, decent camera, photo album, video recorder, tv, hifi, plus all the other stuff we have on a phone now, not to mention a watch.

    Egg timer, stopwatch.

Brilliant this. Looking back at things I’ve had in the past and memories.

Noticed and Omega for sale for £127 in one of the late 70s editions!

Absolutely awesome - many thanks for posting.

And cudos to Argos for doing this - that is quite some undertaking and really well presented.

TZ'ers might find this online calculator useful to see what prices would actually be in today's money - it's often quite surprising as in how much cheaper many items are today comparatively. I've just been browsing cameras from 1982, and a fifty quid camera then would be £175 now.

You can set it to any year and any amount.

    http://www.in2013dollars.com/uk/infl...1982?amount=50

eg, crappy Amstrad hifi in 1982 would be the equivalent of £700 now...

Ferguson VHS recorder would be pushing £2k in today's money... and Astrowars a cool £100...

ETA - I've found the quickest way to find stuff is to go right to the end page - the index - and then go from there.

Used to flick through it with my nephew in 1985, (I think) when he was 3.

As soon as he recognised something - he’d dab the finger that had been up his nose a second previously, on a picture and name it.

We would get to the clock section, and he would triumphantly dab a pudgy finger to item No 5 and and shout:

    ”Googo-Lock!”

    Great memories!

Great nod to Bill Bailey and fun move by Argos.

Flicking through I hadn't even remembered they sold hand tools - the Impact Driver I bought for 4.49 in 1985 I used only this summer and still have most of the bits for ! The metal box is long gone however.

Sure enough, the following year, in the Autumn / Winter 88/89 catalogue, there was the stainless 7A38-7280 SAA119J - even cheaper !!

Just looked though this and the old halcyon days come back, I just have to go somewhere between 84 and 86 and search out my first camera that I ogled over in the catalog, a Praktica MTL5 with 50mm lens and the 135mm Zeiss telephoto, I loved that camera!!
