    Table top magnifier

    Hi guys
Could anyone recommend a good table top magnifier?
Had occasion to fit a bracelet to my new Omega Seamaster today and realised whilst my age 60 was significant enough for the purchase my eyesight isn’t what it was!
With taped over lugs and patience I eventually succeeded but I am sure if I had a close up of spring bars it would have been much easier.
Also now realised I need to remove the two half links to get a better fit so will need to purchase some screwdrivers and bracelet holding tool.
    Many thanks

You may need a visor with loupe/ magnifier ! I can only think of a large linen inspection glass ( google images to see what Im talking about ) but the problem you will have is getting screwdrivers in whilst you have the bracelet holder underneath !

I looked at one of these before and decided against it as it gives you virtually no room to work !

i would see if you can pick up a cheap visor on ebay or a magnifying lens from a beautician/ nail bar these come with lights normally and screw clamp to attach to a table

Perhaps one of those nifty things my dental hygienists uses with built in light and magnifier would work?

    somethin like this ?

I have something similar but you have to get so close they are all but useless.
Reading reviews a couple of ominous 1 stars with complaints of not being able to adjust the focal length.
Cheers , my search will continue.

If thats the case, I would say your only option would be a loupe or a visor with loupe attachment.

further hunting showed up these- much better review? Maybe explore further - and at least with Amazon you can usually return within 14d

Or you could try just finding some way or someone to hold your phone with the camera on and zoomed in... depending on your phone that should give you decent enough magnification.

How about a pair of +3 or +4 reading glasses? They can even be worn over your prescription spectacles if necessary.

Just cram a loupe in your eye.

It's what I do, plus you can buy them in different strengths.

For bracelet type stuff I find a 3.5 to be handiest.
    Cheers,
    Neil.

I've got some of those. They are not comfortable to wear for more that a couple of minutes. My current method is to wear two pairs of glasses ( 1 prescription reading and 1 +400 £1 shop specials). Works OK for me.

I’ve got the older version of this, it’s not a big magnification but it makes a difference.

I've used one of these for the last 10 years or so.

Has 3.5 diopter lens (1.85x magnification). Model is now obsolete and NLA from RS. I've actually got two of them - one with a different arm set-up, permanently fixed in a set position, the other readily adjustable. Still not always the easiest thing to work under. I've often thought about the advantages of using a headband magnifier instead. And No - I didn't pay those prices for them. Happened to be in the right place when some labs at work were being decommissioned.

I made the mistake of buying one of these. The lenses might as well of been made from solid clay for all I could see out them. There may be more expensive and better quality versions, but these were rubbish.

I bought one of those Maplins table top magnifiers when they were on sale and Maplins still existed, similar to this:

Just ordered something similar from Amazon , best of it is I don’t need reading glasses just need for driving.
But definitely feel like I need some magnification when using Bergeon tweezers.
Thanks for all advice guys will “see” how I get on when this arrives.

+1, seems obvious to me! Some folks struggle to hold them in, I`ve never had a problem. I also use the type that clip onto spectacles.

Even with good eyesight a magnifier helps a lot with swapping straps etc.

Worth the money and my eyesight

Arrived today and have to say I am impressed.
You can angle the magnifier through any plane and there is plenty of room to work underneath and most importantly all is in focus !
Just took the bracelet off my Omega Seamaster and put the rubber strap back on with minimum fuss !

It's a little bit dusty, but I've always used a head torch and this old magnifier. I must admit, your new bit of kit looks like a serious upgrade - I might invest in one of those myself.

I have no difficulty in ejecting a loupe from my eye socket just as I reach the crucial moment. It's a superpower but somewhat irritating.

I do overall like it but it is a bit stiff and difficult to move about.
Also i do get fogging on the lens due to me breathing :)
