    New guy - introduction

    Hi All.

Thought I’d say hi as I’m new to the forum. Always loved wearing a watch but recently got the bug and started collecting. Currently have three watches.

I’m looking forward to reading the forums and joining in with the discussions. I’m sure I can learn a lot from you all.

    Thanks
    Leigh

    thanks everyone :)

I’ll list the watches with a bit of a timeline...

Tag Heuer Indy 500 - I bought this around 12 years ago, it was my first watch purchase and I loved it. I wore it almost everyday until around 4 years ago. I made the mistake of taking it to a local jeweller to change the battery, they didn’t replace the seal properly. Ended up with water in the watch and it was out of action for a few years.

Rolex Explorer 214270 - I bought this beginning of last year in the second hand market. I absolutely love this watch, it’s subtle and the sizing fits me well. I now wear this almost every day, it’s currently on an Everest strap. After buying this the watch bug kicked in so I sent the tag off for a full service!

Rolex Submariner 114060 - I got this earlier this year, I had the chance to get it from the AD so I’m happy it has my name registered to it. Mostly comes out to play at weekends!

I will add some pics when I’m at the computer. I’m currently on the phone!

How did you manage to pull that off?

    Did you wait long?

I waited 2 weeks. I was really surprised when the AD called me, I was expecting to wait longer. But having searched the internet after I had got it, this model does seem to be much easier to get hold of?

    Hi. Nice watches.

I’m relatively new myself too. Nice place really, frequented by mostly nice but all a bit bonkers, folk.

Non WIS - “You collect watches? Why?”
WIS (me) - “Err, I dunno really. I just like them.”
Non WIS - “Why do you want more than one watch? You’ve only got two wrists. Isn’t it expensive? My watch cost £50. It’s dead accurate and tells me my heart rate too. You spent HOW F’ing MUCH? You’re bonkers!”

Enjoy the forum. It’s dead good

I love the explorer on the oyster strap, but IMO it lacks a bit of adjustment so I always struggled to get it just right (I like my watch to fit snug). I gave the Everest tang buckle a go because of the amount of adjustment and it now fits perfectly. I’m happy with how it looks too, along with offering variation from the oyster bracelet on the sub :)

I think the next additions to the collection will be an automatic chrono and something with a white face :) any ideas welcomed!

And on sales corner you can sell your car and buy a watch! Insane!

    You'll love it here,

Welcome to the forum. Very interested in the explorer pics above as im considering rubber/leather options for it. I take it you are happy with the Everest. Worth the outlay?

Welcome to the forum. Like your collection, quality not quantity springs to mind. Stay here long and the quantity will surely follow!
Started out with nothing. Still have most of it left.

For me, yes. The explorer now fits me better than ever, so that’s partly why I’m happy. The quality of the strap is very good, I was worried it was going to be a bit stiff but it’s very supple and fits the watch well.

    Hi :)

I got it from WOS in Cardiff. I hear a few people are having success in goldsmiths Bristol too though.

I was lucky to get it as quickly as I did then!

I love it, have you tried one on? Having the maxi case, I would say it’s on the upper size limit for me. I’m interested in an explorer ii (love the polar dial) but I’d like to try one before ordering because of the size

I have, about a year ago. I remember how awesome it wore on the wrist and how those white gold Indices caught the light. What size wrist are you?

I love the bezel too! I’m around 16cm, i would like to find somewhere that shows all the watch dimensions so that I could compare to the sub.

If anyone knows a place I would be grateful :)
