The one watch charity piece from Tudor was a matt black ceramic with a display case back. I wonder if it will spawn the same tech in their mainstream range.....

Itís a bit bland, that open case back is particularly boring.

    It'll never catch on (cough)

Anyway - I hazard a guess they would want to make use of the tools to make further ceramic cases and parts - seeing as they have already invested.

I had this thought when I saw it too... We know the exact reference wonít go into production, but I would be surprised if we donít get a ceramic Black Bay at some point. Perhaps a more legible, more sensible one with white lume? Maybe they will attempt a ceramic bracelet? Maybe it will replace the PVD steel Black Bay Dark?

The faces of each of these look strangely desolate of detail.

Iím sure that they will use the case in future production models, probably with different hands, dial, insert like they did a few years ago with the on of one Black dialled Black Bay. Itís nice the case is 41mm instead of being upscaled which seems common for Ceramic cased versions of steel watches.

That Tudor reminds me of a quote from a live show with Rowan Atkinson back in 1979, "Because we don't want to end up, do we, like the blind man in the dark room looking for the black cat . . . that isn't there".

    From their advert:

    Dial:
Matt black, domed Black gloss markings Darkened hour markers applied with black luminescent material with green emission Darkened hour markers applied with black luminescent material with green emission Darkened Snowflake hands with black luminescent material with green emission

    Will ceramic shatter if dropped?
I imagine it will be hard but brittle, like those Rado sapphire watches, who's model name escapes me right now.

It sure will. They will resist scratches however unless one is very keen to scratch it.

Tudor really can't do the whole missing end links thing-it just looks terrible. pArt from that though I think it's an interesting move-as said above, a regular version with perhaps orange or red hands/lume would look terrific-as long as it had solid end links!

The bezel on the Black Shield & 42010N is ceramic - it's the crown and pushers that are PVD / not ceramic.
